I’m at an age where I don’t feel comfortable climbing on my extension ladder to hang lights on the peak of my house. I have used shingle clips in the past to do this. I’ve read the review about the poles with grip attachments but they’re all pretty awful. The rest of the house has gutters which makes hanging the lights easy, it’s just the peak which is about 30’ off of the ground and probably no more than 40’ in linear footage.
Getting some high school kid won’t work due to liability issues. The only pros that I’ve come across want to rent you the lights which I’m not a fan of and they’re pretty expensive.
Any suggestions?

What about using a company to set you with the permanent lights in your house? Then you never have to worry about them again.

A few people in my sub division have done this and they look great. I dont know about the cost but Id like to look into it. You can change the colors and have multiple colors and they look very nice. Some of them can even change the colors to "team" colors on football days

Wife doesn’t like the looks of those and tbh I’m not a big fan either.

call me Scrooge but hanging colored lights all over your house is optional. If you can’t find someone to do it for you either as a favor or for pay maybe it’s ok to not do it anymore. Certainly better than getting injured over it

the light rental thing sounds like a great solution…lights are up for the holidays then gone for the year they are not in use

They’re led lights so you can set them to do whatever you want. The quote I got was around 9k for them installed

Sounds like it is time for you to scale back your decorating and just not hang lights on the peak of your house any longer. I stopped this a few years back when I realized that you could do some damage to shingles if you step just right.

I think this is where we are. It’s not many lights, the front of the house is only 75’ across and those are the only hung lights. The rest are mini lights in the bushes and around the 2 trees. Those take no more than :30 to install. Of the 5 installation companies I have quotes from the cheapest was $1500. The other concern is for most of these guys it’s a side job and while some have been around for a few years the most seem pretty fly by night.

This. Wrap a tree or two, throw a net light over a bush, throw up a 30$ projector that puts snowflakes on the house, and I'm done.

my wife has bitched the last 3 years about or roofline not having lights. Everytime I offer to hold the ladder for her while she it's em up. 3 years running and she still hasn't taken me up on it.

Focus on the ground grame. Decorate yard, and you can use spot lights/flood lights to light up the house. Check out govee or something like that.

Totally agree! I just hang mine on all the shrubs. It’s good enough….Santa will still find your house.

I did them myself for about $500 which covered the front of the house.

Wasn't very hard, just took some time. There's a thread on the Tech board about permanent lights.
