Has pricing gotten any better for backyard projects for pool and cabana projects? I never see lumber trucks on the road anymore and I don’t see the pool builders trucks anywhere either. Granted a lot of my neighbors have had pools for some time so I don’t expect them to be in my neighborhood but even so, I don’t see a lot of them around the northshore. Has pricing come down at all? Or still going up?

I finance pools for a living, pricing definitely hasn't come down (nationwide).

Put in a pool pre-Covid $18,000, priced that same pool 5 years later and it would have cost me $75,000. Told my wife, no pictures, that we would be in the above ground pool, prices today.

Pool or pond. A pond would work for you.

I have been hearing that prices to build homes, outdoor kitchens, pools, hardscaping "are ridiculous" for well over 15 years. The only exception where it really was ridiculous was the months after Ida with lumber.

A few new construction houses I was looking at in 2012 was priced at $649,000, $699,000, and $849,000 thirteen years ago which I thought was nuts, but to build that today would cost well over a million to $1.7 million. Prices have only gone up since that time.

I put in a pool in summer of '24. I priced another similar one for a newbuild a year later and it was slightly higher.

If you can afford it now just bite the bullet and do it. Don't wait because you will be waiting a long time.
