Ole Miss might have benefited from letting the CFP selection committee see the team under the interim staff. If they had dominated the Egg Bowl with the replacement coaches, it could have may have helped their playoff seeding—especially if Lane doesn’t end up coaching during the postseason.

I agree, but contracts are contracts.

There are positives and negatives to both scenarios in Lane coaching(or not coaching) the Egg Bowl. I think if LSU and Lane announce it after Friday’s game Lane is done at Ole Miss. The outcry will be too much for them to keep Lane for the playoffs.

Win and they’re in, and just making the playoffs will be their best season since the 60’s.

If they drop further they won’t be hosting a first rd game. That’s a pretty big deal and loss of a few million in home revenue. That along with playing Bama/ORE instead of the 11/12th seed.

It would still be their best season since the 60’s. I think they’re hyper focused on just making it and seem to believe Kiffin is the best option. That or he has them by the balls due to the contract and they don’t want to pay to fire him.

Been reading their 247 board. They are super pissed about dropping tonight and worried the committee drops them even if they win against state if Lane isn’t their coach. They really want a home playoff game. I understand if LSU was in their position we would feel the same.
