Like Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael before it, the previously announced live-action The Last Ronin movie has been sent to the grave, with Paramount instead choosing to spend their time and energy convincing Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy producer Neal H. Moritz to work his same franchise-magic on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

First greenlit in April 2024 on the back of Mutant Mayhem‘s box-office success, the adaptation of the eponymous five-issue comic book miniseries was set to be produced by former DC Films boss Walter Hamada’s 18hz production company, feature script work from Child’s Play (2019) writer Tyler Burton Smith, and embrace its source material’s raw anger to the tune of an R-Rating – a would-be first for Turtles’ cinematic adventures.

Awesome news if true. I trust the sonic guy to do well with a trusted franchise for kids.

As much as I would have liked to have seen Last Ronin brought to screen, this is the smart call for the franchise. TMNT needs to appeal to a wide audience, and rolling with LR would cut out the youth. It has to be done.

Same. I've got a grandkid going apeshit over the latest animated version of the Turtles. The Sonic movies were surprise blessings. Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion as Bebop and Rocksteady please.

I dont see why they cant make both. one movie for kids, other for those who originally grew up with TMNT

Agreed. i was really hoping that the last attempt at a TMNT franchise would work out. It seemed like they were leaning into the cartoon characters quite a bit....but the movies were just so damned bad.

My youth perfectly aligned with the first wide release of ninja turtles as a kid in the 90s. I had to google what the last ronin is. To the likely VAST majority of people the fun TMNT is what they associate with the franchise.

Because making a movie is a very time extensive project requiring a shite ton of money. One project has the potential to make significantly more money than the other.

As an 80s kid that grew up loving the 89s Turtles, the Nickelodeon series (if that's the one you're referring to) is better to me. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes TMNT.

The Ronin movie sounds way more interesting than the cookie cut reboot formula 'established property.'

But, that's corporate entertainment for you. Low risk, high formula fast food crap.

Right. This isn’t hard. at the man children whining about some relatively obscure comic version not being made.

Terrible news. Totally stupid decision. I hope the video game doesn't end up getting canceled too. More excited for that.

Sounds good. Why couldn't they do both?

There was a Nickelodeon series about 10 years ago that was pretty awesome.

The current series is crap.

That's the one. It's very good with some nice callbacks to the 80s show and even a reference to the underwater level of the NES game.

You don’t say? Is that why different movies are made for different budgets?

It’s almost like you could animate the last ronin movie instead and still make it. Shucks.
