Curious what the board's thoughts are on [link=(this)]https://www.npr.org/2025/11/25/nx-s1-5615164/pentagon-scouting-hegseth-cut-ties[/link]. Warning - it's an NPR link.
Honestly, this seems incredibly petty. I'm not some DEI warrior by any stretch but I don't like this and maybe I'm a hypocrite.
My 1st grade daughter is in Scouts. Why Scouts and not Girl Scouts? Because a friend from church invited her to the open house at Scouts and the pack is at our church. Neither my wife and I were involved in Girl or Boy Scouts. We did some research and the Girl Scouts just didn't have much presence and my kid liked the open house and joined.
She's one of 2-3 girls in her pack. I don't see how little kids being co-ed in Scouts hurts anything. I get if they start getting all weird with trans stuff etc. My kid is super girlie but also outdoorsy.
I'm torn because I don't feel like every org needs to be open to everyone and if Scouts had said at the time, boys only, fine. But maybe I'm too close but it rubs me the wrong way that our government doesn't want to support kids doing something that promotes good values.
May the downvotes commence.

From the article
I would expect this sort of sensationalism from NPR

I caught a lot of hell for having my two girls in scouts along with my son.
Being an "only parent present" father, I didn't have much choice.
All three of them had a great time.
ETA: To this day, my teens are always asking to grab the tents and go hiking or camping. When they choose time in the outdoors over the movies or the mall, it reminds me that I made the right choice back then.

because there needs to be something, somewhere, anywhere where it can just be boys only, but the angry feminist crowd will never allow it.

From what I understand once they get to the actualy Scouts age, they do split off by gender.
This is Cub Scouts. Who gives a shite if 6 year old boys and girls are mixed?

Too many pedophiles and cross deessing kids have infiltrated the scouts and the scouts wont grow a sack to root out all the undesirables.
So the military just cuts ties.

Get this Lord Baden Powell always wanted girls in Scouts. There were actually girls in the scouting program from almost the very beginning. People like you threw a hissy fit back in the day and he and his sister were forced to create Girl Guides. Today in England, the original Scouts are coed and have been that way for decades. In the US, the BSA and GSUSA are run by two competing organizations and want nothing to do with merging.
The BSA about fell apart because the former old "manly" men were too busy being pedophiles. The leadership now is trying to get back to what Scouting was supposed to be for everyone, well hopefully we got rid of all the pedos.
If you want a boys only troop or pack, guess what, you can make it. If you want a girls only troop or pack, guess, what you can make that too. If you want a mixed troop or pack, now you can make that too. Boys only spaces haven't gone anywhere, it's people like you that don't really want to do anything with scouting just not doing a damn thing to create these spaces.

I would love to see how the scouts operate and where in England.
I really would. I bet it’s super informative these days.

Honestly wished Cub Scouts was an option when I was younger. I did Girl Scouts but got bored very quickly because the troops in my area were more concerned with cookie sales than a lot of other activities (and just doing “arts and crafts” was dumb inbetween).

Didn’t realize Bk Lounge was a scoutmaster. Cool. Explains a lot.

What I've noticed about Scouts since my daughter joined as a Lion last year is that it seems to be an outlet for kids on the spectrum.
Not sure if it's always been that way.
My guess is kids who don't/can't play sports or have trouble in social interactions are drawn to it - or maybe their parents push them to it.
One of the reasons we signed up my kid was just to give her variety. She's already in sports and likes camping, etc. At this age it's very sweet that they don't notice the differences too much.
I'm sure that will change at some point. But I'll say this, the cubscouts themselves and parents in our pack have zero issues with my daughter being there and love her because she's so outgoing and social and heps bring it out of some of the shy/awkward kids.

Gilwell Park, you can take wood badge there or just tour it. I have three beads made from oak on the property, my neckerchief and woggle also come from there.

You sound like part of the problem

Scouting today does not resemble scouting of former generations in even the least. It used to teach self-reliance and provide a good moral base. Now, it teaches very little regarding woodscraft, survival, first aid, citizenship, etc.
I purchased a Scout Field Book for one of my coworkers whose sons enjoy running around their many wooded acres like wild Indians during the summers. I though it would provide them with some guidance on building shelters, starting a cooking fire, lashing poles together to create tripods and rope bridges - but NOoOoOo! It's full of climate alarmist crap, equity and inclusion tripe, and namby-pamby sissy-boy BS.
I had to go dig through boxes and boxes that had been sealed up through the years to find my Boy Scout Field Book printed in 1979 so they'd have something decent for reference in regard to outdoor activities like camping, fishing, hunting, etc.
Once upon a time, the Eagle Scout award was the only civilian award allowed to be worn on a military uniform because it truly meant something and showed the wearer to be a person of merit and accomplishment. Maybe it's still allowed, but it certainly doesn't mean the same thing it used to mean in the Scouting world.

This is definitely the reality of it today; we definitely do get a lot of kids with disabilities. Scouts kinda has the reputation of being for nerds and weirdos. We are definitely seeing a rise in people joining though. With the popularity of being outdoors after exiting Covid, parents seem to be leaning into Scouts to fill that want to learn how to camp and explore with their kids. Lots of parents don't have the first clue how to camp.

Many kids on the spectrum are home schooled. Scouts is a way to get those home schooled kids out and socializing.
The level of security I saw while my girls were in Scouts was impressive.
Zero one-on-one contact was allowed at any time.
Background checks even on parents who simply wanted to help out from time to time.

Again, my kid is in 1st grade and a Tiger so I don't know what the older ones do.
But our very last den meeting, we went over first aid and citizenship! A vet spoke to them about citizenship and what it means. And they also did Christmas cards for vets overseas.

They support ‘preferred pronouns and gender identity’ of ‘transgender children’.
I’m fine with ending support for them.
