Pilots license

Figured I would post this here and not the ot to where I would could actually get decent feedback. Does anyone on here have their private or sport pilot license and what was your experience like getting it. Any other valuable information is greatly appreciated

Yes. I picked it up years ago and hardly fly these days but just to keep current.
Finding a good instructor that has the time is key. Flying 2-3 times a week is best as you maintain proficiency. Best to have the money saved up and do it all at once.

Be prepared to spend like 15K on your private and definitely get an instrument rating. The more you fly per week the better. It’s cool but expensive

My son is working on his. He has already done his solo. Now working toward his cross country solo. Just building hours and getting experience (and paying for the fuel and rental time).
He started in high school but since being in college, he hasn’t had as much time to finish his private.
2 of his really close friends dropped out of college to work full time of their license. They now have the license so they can give lessons. That is a great way to build hours for their commercial as they work towards their multi engine.

I got mine in 2004 along with instrument rating. Have about 3000 total hours in a 182. Easy to get private. A bit harder to get instrument. You need both to be safe and have real ability to fly in marginal weather. Take no shortcuts. Fly often.

Yep, back since ‘91. Took lessons while in college @ La Tech. If you aren’t well funded to stay current & maintain proficiency, kind of hard to justify the expense. I had an old family friend, was also a pilot, once told me “I’d whole lot rather be down here wishing I were flying, than flying & wishing I were down there”. Always know your limitations…

Most of them do not.
Flying is generally much safer than driving.
Be prepared to spend 10 to 14 k for a private. It’s not cheap. And you have to stay in practice. You have to commit one or two days a week to gain proficiency. If you take a few weeks off, most people need one or two warmup flights to get back on track. Staying proficient is what causes most would be pilots to drop out of training.

Have sold life since 2000 and haven’t seen an exclusion for private pilot.
3 yr suicide clause yes but within reason they can’t exclude private after the fact.

I took quite a few lessons, but never finished. You really have got to have a true love of flying in order for it to be worth all of the expense to get and stay certified.

Yes, but I got mine in the mid-1980's. Never got my instrument rating, though. My flight instructor could be a complete horses arse at times, but I enjoyed the experience. Haven't logged significant flight time in nearly 30 years, so lots have changed in that time.

Always been a dream of mine. I can't get a class III medical so I could never get my private pilots license but the FAA changed the rules on sports pilot license. It now allows a sports pilot license to fly a cessna 172, piper archer etc. Still can't have more than one passenger or fly at night but at least it makes it easier to find a flight school to get the license. If I had the money I'd be all over it. Have taken introductory flights and love it.
