Loomis/Cooks’ Agent Poison Pill Fails

Another fail by Loomis… Looks like Cooks will be on roster for rest of season unless there’s a loophole to get out of this.
NFL rules prohibit a team from creating a deterrent to waivers claims. The revision to the Cooks contract was obviously done for that reason. It gave the Saints a window to waive him before the $5.94 million became fully guaranteed in 2026, and it would have stuck the team that claimed the contract on waivers with the obligation.
Rule No. 9 means that, if (as happened here) the Saints revised the Cooks contract with the goal of getting another team to claim the contract on waivers, the revised contract cannot be waived.

Not to call you a moron, but the revision was requested by Cooks' side.

Of course, the NFL strictly enforces all rules even the obscure ones against the Saints.
Make him play out the season. frick all this nonsense Loomis.
Oh, Goodell, Saints fans remember how you and the NFL would not retest Saints players during COVID and technically disqualified double digit players costing the Saints a needed victory.

And what if we get docked a draft pick. We can blame Cooks’ agent for that?

If the Saints are penalized for this then it’s a fireable offense for ole Mick

And what has Cooks signing contributed to the team this season?

Again, not call someone a moron twice in the same thread, but the "punishment" so to speak is not having the release go through. There is nothing illegal going on.

Correct me if I'm wrong - so they're trying to create a scenario where cooks decides his fate and the Saints get to recoup money but the rule doesn't allow the financial part

Even if the league allows the Saints to waive Cooks (as Rule No. 24 is written, it should not), there is (as the source put it) “a full-blown conspiracy involving the Saints, another team, and Cooks’s agent.”
Added the source, “They all worked together.”
Which team is it? Bills, Broncos, Rams?

Basically, it’s more to keep waivers fair. Sounds like cooks had a team in mind and the saints worked with him to try to make claiming him on waivers undesirable so he could get through

Can Cooks just be the ball boy? Only way he should see the field.
