What does Kiffin gain?

What in the world could LK gain from coaching the egg bowl rather than just making his announcement today?
If Ole Miss wins the game, but he announces that he’s leaving…he’ll be enemy #1 in Oxford.
If Ole Miss loses the game, then he announces he’s leaving…he’ll be blamed as the distraction that caused the loss and he will be enemy #1 in Oxford.
If he announces that he is staying, then why would you put the players, fans, administrators, and everyone else through this circus in the first place?
There is no making sense of it.
Is it possible that he fully intends to coach Ole Miss through the playoff unless they take action and remove him as head coach? In that scenario would've just told Keith Carter that he would make a decision after the egg bowl, but in reality what if it goes up there and saying something like “great win, I’m under contract as the head coach of Ole Miss and I’m looking forward to the playoff”. What could they realistically do? Fire him bc he didn’t sign an extension that you wanted him to? Think about it. Ole Miss would most definitely be so angry that he’s continue this that they would remove him in some fashion to keep their word. Kiffin can then move along while claiming that he never wanted to leave in some form or fashion.
He’s so unpredictable that I’m not sure anyone truly has a pulse on this thing until the signed papers are in hand.

He is probably seeing what OM can come up with, who the hell knows.

makes him feel a little less guilty about bailing. Form over substance.

Only to absolute idiots with no self awareness or gratitude.
So yeah, probably a decent percentage of “fans”, but many will be thankful for six fun exciting and successful years.
Virtually all of his players and most of his staff will give him a hero’s send off.

Not ruining the whole next week for his team. Announcing it now & missing the egg bowl is worse than

Maybe Ole Miss hasn’t decided if they will let him coach through the playoffs

Or….they could win the egg bowl and. Announce that he is staying after the game. That would give them quite a bit of momentum through the playoffs.

This is too much power for one person to have. Really Shittey!!
Remind me why do we want him so bad?

Seems obvious Egg bowl is worth too much to OM and the state because they will host a playoff game. Also lane knows if they do that he can feel better leaving program better than he got it, ANDDDDDD his sons hs football season will be over by next Friday at latest and the fallout won’t hit him, and he can go to his sons games without being mobbed and being killed.

Would still respect him more for finishing the season and trying to put them in the best position possible before leaving.
They aren’t going to be happy regardless, but he probably feels best about finishing the season with his team.
It makes sense to me given the challenging circumstances.

Slightly less bitching about him leaving because he waited until the regular season was over.

A reduction in money owed for leaving early, that is what is being worked on now.

Not true. Oxford high school could be playing for the state championship after Lane makes his decision.

“His team”
Ummm..the team that he’s leaving for someone else (reportedly) to coach in the playoff?
Stop it. You can’t sell that he’s doing it bc he cares about his team as if all of this doesn’t have any effect on them and their entire preparation

Huh? Ole Miss is wanting him to leave early and thus is willing to take a reduced fee since he is voluntarily leaving?
Not sure this makes sense, they want him gone that bad?

Because he’s one of the best coaches in the country and he’s everything BK is not.
