Thank you guys that didn't pound sand up my arse (that hurts). My whole thing was how Emmitt was a jerk about the whole thing. We (Alabama) didn't get Randle... fine.. casualties or war.. but man ... Benton kinda got fricked. Hope things work out for him.

(I must preface this post with the fact that I've been drinking heavily tonight... and I'm totally enibriated. It takes several seconds for me to check my spelling).

If Benton didn't want to go to LSU and compete for the 3rd WR spot, how'd he get fricked?

He never got the chance, from everything I've seen, Conway.

If it's true he didn't want to go to LSU, I don't see what the big deal is. He'll probably be a bigger part of AU's offense than he would have been in LSU's.

It doesn't require that Benton did or didn't want to go to LSU. What is required, is that as a clarifying statement that Rueben wanted to go to LSU, BUT was willing to go to OU. As fans, we don't want to accept that his decision was THAT hard. If you compare LSU and OU in how it benefits a receiver, I think OU could argue well. So when he decided he wanted to be a Tiger, he knew what this would to Benton. It was a win, win, win, with Benton getting PT, and Rueben gets his choice, and LSU gets the No1 receiver in the country. I'm sure Miles appreciates the heads up to enable him to determine the near future for LSU. Push this button and you get a Coke, or push that button and you get a Pepsi. I'm happy.

Works for them. Works for me!

Rueben's dad confirmed that Rueben was choosing LSU no matter what! "I'm most comfortable with LSU Dad" 1 am NSD morning .."Ok son, I support that decision"

This needs to be stated again...

With all due respect, Emmitt Randle is a moron!

Depends on the context you read it in. Because he precedes this comment with something along the lines of "I didn't give him an ultimatum...I just told him how it was going to be". Miles still had a decision to make, and I think he made the right one.

Depends? Buddy if that is not an ultimatum, then ultimatums don't exist!

I think this is just Emmitt Randle trying to live through his son. He loves getting all this attention.

Sounds more like Emmett Randle is letting the prospect of NFL dollars cloud his already overly clouded mind to me? For some reason I hope that before Reuben finishes his career at LSU that he and his father have a falling out, that Reuben tells him to go to hell, and that Reuben never gives that SOB a dime of his NFL money.

It also sounds like Benton going to LSU wasn’t an issue with Reuben as Reuben told Emmett at 1AM in the morning that he wanted to go to LSU anyway. It’s kind of like Reuben didn’t have the courage to broach his over bearing dad until the moment of truth was very near. Which kind of explains the reasons why every thing was so quite up until the day before signing day. frick Emmett Randle for putting Reuben, Benton, and Miles in that predicament.

It’s a good thing I wasn’t coach, because I would have had to suck it up and tell Emmett to kiss my arse. I still think we would have ended up with both of them in the end and if Reuben had ended up somewhere else, then I would just have to explain to tiger nation the story behind the scenes that transpired! I would have been proud of Miles if he had stood his ground and not backed down.

I guess I got to be glad that we at least ended up with Reuben, but my opinion of him has been sullied! I just can’t ignore that bad taste in my mouth this whole affair has left me. I hope that Miles can’t ignore his either!

There's still more to the story he's not letting out.

But for argument's sake, let's say you take Emmitt's words at face value and assume he is telling the truth (maybe he is, maybe he isnt), what you are left with is a father who forced this on LM. He hints that the Bentons were on the same page, but doesn't come out and say it. If you believe what he says then if LM told him he would honor his offer to Benton, then RR and Benton would both be at LSU.

If this would have happened, then LSU would have benefited more, RR a little less, and Benton a lot less. It was by no means a dumb decision for a father to make. Selfish, yes. Dumb, no.

If you listen to the audio, Mr, Randle admits that Bentons true choice of School was AU this year, for quick playing time...(he is 2years behind)

I did listen to the audio and with all due respect that is not what Emmett said.

quote:

I was correct in my clues and putting 2 and 2 together. Benton was going to sign with LSU for the sake of commitment to the commitment, LSU hung by him..he was feeling guilty about switching...

I don’t know what’s wrong with you today Apex, you usually see the world with pretty clear moral clarity, but today for some reason you are having a rough time.

quote:

IN the end RR was coming to LSU regardless of Benton (listen carefully)..Miles pulled the scholly on Benton, giving Benton what he wanted and making the Randle family feel good on all corners..and avoiding any last minute change of heart

Right Reuben let his dad know just before the day of reckoning that he was going to LSU no matter what because Reuben didn’t know the decision that Miles had already made because of the ultimatum Miles had earlier received from Emmett who says it wasn’t an ultimatum but in any event that he had told Miles that if Benton goes to LSU, Randle goes somewhere else. If that isn’t an ultimatum then I don’t know what the word ultimatum means! Anyway, I’m now glad that Auburn entered the picture for Benton’s sake; I wasn’t at the time. I frankly was a little pissed about it, but would have forgotten about it after Benton had signed with LSU.

quote:

It makes sense to me...LSU didn't want to give up Benton, but Benton isn't interested in school..

Like I said, you must be having an off day! Benton wanted to come to LSU, but thanks to Emmett Randle’s “none ultimatum” ultimatum, he got royally screwed! By the way, although LSU at least ended up with Reuben, we still got the short end of the stick because we lost Benton, also thanks to Emmett Randle.

quote:

Once you get that, it makes sense why he choose AU!

Yeah, he had no other choice and was lucky he had at least Auburn to fall back on!

They knew Randle's career would be fine at any of the schools he could have chosen, but Benton's would be short-lived had he signed with LSU having LaFell, Tolliver and Randle ahead of him.

Yeah right…so he pulls the rug out on Benton at the last minute and forces Benton to end up at Auburn with Cody Burns, who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a football if his life depended on it! Some of you guys crack me up!
