Currently watching the first season on Amazon Prime and am very pleased with how religious television has gotten its act together in the recent past. Shows like The Chosen have really opened up the potential for compelling drama in this genre and Prime has definitely done a solid job with continuing that trend with House of David.

For those of you who need a brief primer: House of David tells the story of King David - the third (and greatest) king of Israel after Saul and his son, Ish-bosheth - as chronicled in 1st and 2nd Samuel in the Old Testament of the Bible. The acting is solid, the writing is good, and the drama is compelling.

Season 1 is really good but season 2 is behind a paywall for some other service so I haven't watched it yet.

I’ll have to try it again. Couldn’t quite get over the 14 foot tall Goliath

Meh. It makes no difference to me. Recent historical analysis of the text seems to indicate that Goliath was likely closer to 7'0" tall. Still a giant for the period.

Watched S2 on Prime via Wonder Project subscription. They had a Black Friday deal that was 2.25 for 2 months, not sure what it is now.

Series exceeded my expectations, I’m assuming they will have another season considering the content and events they would have to work with. The Samuel scenes have been my favorite, Stephen Lang is great in this role.

Just finished the 2nd season.
Enjoyed it a lot, as much as S1.
Definitely will be a S3 based on the ending

One of my favorite shows and others ways to watch lol

Too many historical inaccuracies in it for me. He is described in 1 Samuel as "admoniy" which is Hebrew for Ruddy/Reddish. Some say that he actually may have had reddish hair...(red hair was rare, but was present in the region at the time). Still, that's up to interpretation.

There is nothing biblical indicating that David's mother was killed by a lion, or David being illegitimate. (made up)

Doeg, the alchemist being completely made up (biblically, he was simply "the keeper of Saul's herds).

A "forbidden romance" between David and Michal (made up).

Eshbaal's timeline for ascending to the throne (doesn't match biblical timeline).

Saul's army on horseback...biblically, Solomon was the first monarch to own horses, and they were solely used to pull chariots. It was around 200 years after Saul's reign before there were any soldiers on horseback.

The Chosen did use some poetic licensing to fill gaps within the biblical story...but The House of David centers some complete story lines around non-biblical plots.
