In a recently filed financial warning, Ubisoft stated that the traditional £50-£60 one-time purchase single-player formula doesn’t work anymore in the market, so it is more interested in live service and free-to-play games.

Ubisoft UK filed a financial warning (via CityAM), highlighting that physical software sales will see a decline in the upcoming years, leading to a dip in revenue. The market doesn’t follow the old traditional formula anymore.

1. Make woke single player crap no one wants to buy.
2. Underperform sales targets.
3. Blame the single player games market instead of your woke garbage.
4. Make woke live service crap no one wants to buy.
5. Profit?

I guess we will never see that Splinter Cell remake or any other Splinter Cell game......or a Ghost Recon game that isnt filed with live service garbage.

You will when Tencent starts auctioning those IPs off.

That release makes sense considering Tencent does free to play games, and it’s all but certain Tencent will be the new boss come Friday.

Makes sense. If you have over 16k employees, you need to put out addictive slop to make the line go up. The future of AAA gaming is in studios in the 50-250 employee range.

It’s funny they say this since Clair Obscur, a single player game made by ex Ubisoft devs, has made a bunch of money on the traditional game formula and selling the game slightly cheaper.

It hasn’t made “16k employees and 1B EUR market cap” levels of bunches of money, which is the problem with that segment of the gaming industry.

Considering Ubisoft just released a mainline AC game, with all the marketing you could ask for, and:

And they had to beg Tencent to pay a loan in breach

They need to figure something out

No doubt. Ubisoft is a disaster. Too big to succeed at this point.

Ubisoft had an earnings meeting where they bragged about sales in Q2 being up 35% over Q2 last year

They are LITERALLY comparing AC Shadows' sales to SW Outlaws and Skull and Bones.

That is just where they are.

How long before Tencent just acquires them?

I’ve tried finding the cost to make the game, pretty big guesses from 6-40 million over the years. If we take the highest of 40 million it still did remarkably well having sold 5 million by October.

I can't believe Minecraft is still on that list. Doesn't everyone own that game by now?

I think Minecraft sucks, but I can't imagine any scenario where an adult gamer with young kids doesn't own it.
