Ole Miss tells Kiffin sign by egg bowl or your fired?

So they’d pay his buyout then he’s free to sign wherever?

Ofcourse, I’m sure there is offsetting language if he’s hired.

I can imagine there’s some sort of deferred compensation or signing bonus you could do. This way have ole miss on the hook while paying some too…

i think it was more of a professional request to state your intentions by that time.

My guess is they can suspend him for nearly any reason, not fire him.

It’s “make a decision soon or you’re not coaching the playoffs”. They don’t have to fire him to prevent him from coaching the playoffs is my thought.

Though I do believe he’ll make a decision here soon and that won’t matter.

Do we know that’s what happened? AFAIK, nobody with knowledge of those conversations ever said the word “ultimatum”.

If OM simply asked Kiffin to tell them if he was planning to leave, that’s an understandable request considering OM would have to start their own search like yesterday.

IMHO I believe that is Ole Miss trying to use what they believe to be their only leverage.

Or you can compare this to a "normal" job. Any time anyone gives me their two weeks' notice, they are gone.

Personally, it shows an insane lack of confidence on Ole Miss's part.

Lane has them by the balls and OM can't go through with that ultimatum

Ole Miss has absolutely zero leverage. The ultimatum is a hope and a prayer because they either want the good news or the band aid ripped off. They're tired of the agony of waiting. It's the hope that kills you

Im struggling to understand what the posters who think OM is being ridiculous expect them to do. Stay quietly in the cuck chair while Lane and family no-so-quietly hang out in Gainesville and BR? He hasn’t even denied he’s considering those jobs…meaningless, I know, but easy to do and he’s not doing that much.

Obviously an ultimatum is a dumb idea (and I’m not convinced that’s what it was) but they had to try to get some clarity.

Id guess this is definitely the reason. Seems like a quite reasonable request to me.

They don't have to fire him and don't have to pay anything. They can simply pull any raise offers and proceed as he's leaving.
