This is a deal. Link is to Fender.com

I've played a few of these new Affinity models and was impressed with the basic bones.
The pickups and controls are junk of course. ( I realized that I was a bit harsh saying this. Everything is good enough for a starter electric guitar and has a Telly sound, it just can be better, but not at that price)
I couldn't buy an unfinished body and neck for this price.
I just ordered 1. I've got some brand-new Wilkinson vintage overwound pickups ready to go in it.

ETA: the site is a little slow. The price will display as $249.99 at first, but will correct to $174.99 after a few seconds total cost with tax was $181.99.

We also have this Sonic Strat, that is a really decent guitar for the price:

I would be willing to bet, that guitar has standard strat routing under the pickguard, if you wanted to buy a loaded strat pickguard to go on it.
I know that Affinity Telly has a humbucker rout at the neck, so you can do a sort of Bluesboy thing with it.

You son of a bitch! I just ordered this. I don't have a black tele. I'll probably throw some bootstrap pickups in it.

same here, I'll probably put a wood pickguard on it. The blacked out hardware looks really cool though.

I ordered Bootstrap Palo Duro pickups for it. Will probably change the pots and switch. I'll have to see how the tuners are. I love the all black everything look and matching black headstock.

Yeah, all of that will need changing. On one that I was playing at a store, I broke the tone knob off. I think the pot had a plastic shaft. I can't remember exactly what happened, I just handed it back to the store guy.
The tuners seem to be decent though.

Contoured body and black-on-black are both nice features.

It's only got 1 pickup. Like an Esquire.

True. But a full Strat pick guard, and it's a TeleStrat.

I saw a video the other day of Skunk Baxter going into a guitar center to buy a new Telecaster.
He ended up walking out with a Squier.
They were asking him why he didn't go for the higher end stuff?
He said "this is all I really need.".

stupid question but what’s the main difference between this 200 dollar telecaster and the multiple thousand dollar ones?

Materials and hardware used, quality of build, pickups, controls, finishes. Cost of labor in California vs. Asia.
There's no doubt that a U.S. made Telecaster feels more solid and higher quality.

China or Indonesia mostly. They also make a lot in Mexico that are lower priced but not exactly cheap. Same with Japan.
