A scenario where Lane leaves before the CFP and Golding takes over.
Gonna be a wild few weeks.

Who the hell wants to play for Pete Golding lol
Posted on 11/16/25 at 11:34 pm to lsufan0582
It wouldn't be Golding. It would be Joe Judge

Given the timing of it all, he'd probably be the right hire for Ole Miss as far as retention goes
If he isn't extended there, they're going to be in a bind. That's why I believe the buzz that he has an ultimatum

It would look bad on Lane from the outside, but it sounds like Ole Miss will force him out

Idk what their thinking is with this, like I said though, they would be in a bind if they didn't just move on. They need him to commit to something because now is the time to vet candidates.
I have a feeling he may sign something this week

I would rather Golding if I were yall. He’s been around some great coaches for a long time. At least for interim in the playoffs. But I guess they can both run it. An Ed/Aranda situation.

Golding is the DC next year for OM, regardless of what happens with Kiffin.
Joe Judge has been a HC before. Let him deal with the media circus, he knows in-game clock management already, how to deal with the flow of a live game. Let Pete just focus on coaching defense. Let Weiss just focus on running the offense. All the players love Joe. He'd be the best shot at winning some playoff games.

Not if he could be the next head coach

Yeah that makes sense to me.

Joe Judge would make a lot more sense

In this scenario, you think Judge would have a shot at the full-time gig? Ya'll may not have a choice tbh, all he'd need is a solid CFP performance

Would depend a lot on the timing of everything and how the playoffs go.
Depending on how long this all gets stretched out, all the top outside choice could have accepted other jobs already (Jon Sumrall to Auburn, etc...).
Impossible to give a real educated answer given all the variables. Pete won't be the next HC at OM. If Kiffin leaves and we go in-house it'll be Joe. If we have time to conduct a search Jon Sumrall would likely be the top target and he would take the OM job over Auburn.

Figured. The deadline seems to be the Egg Bowl? I've heard rumblings that ya'll want something this week.
It'd have to be relatively soon for Sumrall

Interesting. Do you have inside info or speculating?

I think OM, Florida, and LSU will all want an answer within 48 hours after the Egg Bowl, as the two losers will need time to pivot. I wouldn't expect anything to break between now and the Sunday after though.

Thanks for the info, always love a civil conversation with a fan of another team

I worked in College Athletics for a good while so I'm pretty tied in. Don't care if anyone on here believe me or not - I shite post a ton on here anyways.

Im with other poster and appreciate civil discourse with Rival fans. Also bringing good info to board. Don’t have to answer but what’s your gut tell you what Lane does?

The people I know at OM are convinced he's staying. The people I know at Florida are convinced he's headed there. I don't have a good contact at LSU so I have no idea how they view the situation.
My bet would be that he sticks at OM, but I may well be viewing the tea leaves through red and blue glasses. I know that's a half-assed answer, but everyone I trust is convinced of different outcomes.
But I do have a really good idea that Jon Sumrall would be replacement option #1 at OM (assuming Joe Judge as interim doesn't make the national title game or something like that) and he would take the OM job. Timing is just the biggest factor there
