Fedor-Lindland.......did Lindland file a complaint?

just saw the replay on CST.
Lindland smokes Fedor 2 seconds into the fight and opens a nasty cut over fedor's eye. Fedor looks stunned and Lindland has control of Fedor going for the takedown. It would be a great wrestler on top of Fedor, who was bleeding badly. Instead, Fedor uses the ropes (illegal) to block 2 or 3 attempts, then uses them to bounce off and reverse the takedown. The ref told him to let go about 6 times, but no penalty.
After hearing the crying from the Penn camp, does anyone remember if Lindland filed a complaint? the fights have a lot of parellels:
Penn and Lindland were both much smaller than their opponent
Both were sizeable underdogs
But, unlike Penn, Lindland showed up in shape and had control of the fight until the infraction. Also, he did this in russia....which is impressive.
Lindland has a much more legit beef than Penn.

Can you post a link to the video? I'd like to see that.

Yeah, grabbing the ropes or cage is a dishonest tactic, but most of the time, fighters don't even get in trouble for it. Thanks, I'm gonna show this to my fedor nuthugger friend.

it really gave Fedor a huge advantage. he might have been trouble if Lindland was on top b/c of the cut.

man, i just watched the video about 4 times and fedor definitely didn't use the ropes in his take down. he didn't get any bounce, he just flipped lindland. he definitely used them to avoid being taken down though and i get what you're going for, just disagree on that minor point.

perhaps, it's tough....looks to me like he shifted balance with the ropes to reverse, but it's close.
But yeah, he definitely used them to stop several takedown attempts. His eye was bothering him, he reached for it right away.

i just looked again. Fedor was being carried away from the ropes until he reached out and used the ropes to help stop momentum and establish a pivot point with his foot.
just my opinion.

no doubt he used the ropes to take Lindland down, IMHO, FWIW, TWSS, etc, etc

Fedor fighting in the motherland..with Putin sitting ringside..home cooking..SEC Style!

i wouldnt say dishonest, is it illegal yes. but its more of an automated response kinda evolutionary in a way.

Agreed. Doesn't make it right, but I agree with your point.
Speedy, was that guy being sarcastic? I hope.

It was in Russia. Do you think it would have mattered?
Posted on 2/11/09 at 8:44 am to lsucoonass
Yeah, that was very illegal. The ref was trying to warn him. But after him not obeying so many times, the ref should have taken a point away. Does it really matter though? It was so early in the fight that Fedor would have won anyway. I know it's impossible to tell but how many times has Fedor got in trouble and pulled out a victory? That's my $.02

You really can't say that because Fedor was bleeding badly.
Two situations could/should have happened:
-the ref takes away a point and seperates them. Lindland doesn't end up on his back. Who knows what happens next.
or
-Fedor doesn't use the ropes, Lindland takes him down and ends up on top of Fedor. An olympic silver medalist wrestler on top of a bleeding Fedor, he could have finished him.

No, I can't but he continues to fight with it not affecting (or effecting, i get those mixed up) him.

Fedor did quite well with Coleman on him. I dont' think the bleeding takes that much effect (or affect, ugh) on him.
and no, I'm not a Fedor nut-hugger. I think they should have seperated them and took a point away.

It's not that the bleeding affects(I think) him. It's that the ringside doctor could have stopped the fight. Of course in Russian with I assume a Russian Doctor Fedor would probably have to lose pints of blood before stoppage.

Yeah, I can't see doctor stoppage in Russia.

I don't know having an arm draped over the ropes seemed more of a natural position than an exploit... It's hard to see how much if any he was grabbing vs his hand just dragging over the ropes.
That's a great leap of faith to call that a planned strategy.
Posted on 2/11/09 at 9:28 am to LSUgrasshopper
I wouldn't call it a "planned strategy" and (like one of the other posters said) it was more instinctive than anything. but it was obvious it stopped the takedown and gave him the reverse.
that being said, Lindland loves to complain and take his beef to court hence his moniker "The Law."
