Coming to Baton Rouge for the game!

Hi all,
My brother and I are from the Midwest (Big10 country), and we do an annual trip each year to a different college football stadium. We've been looking forward to LSU for a lot of years, and we're finally making it happen this weekend. Hoping we don't have too many flight problems!
We are hoping this forum could hook us up with some recs. We are flying into NOLA and bussing up to Baton Rouge on Friday night. Where should we go before the game on Saturday? Any tailgates we should check out? What about after the game? We're in our 30s and OK with some college bars, I suppose, but are there any other places that are a bit less college-y that we should hit as well? Sort of looking for a place that other tourists might not be exposed to. Being Midwesterns, we'll definitely be looking to drink our fair share. Thanks for any help you can send our way, and Geaux Tigers!

Sucks that your first experience in Tiger Stadium will be a midday game with 2 lame duck teams.

Sad to say you probably won't have a "typical" TS experience, since it is a noon game amidst a dumpster fire of a season. But it should still be enjoyable for a CFB enthusiast.
I would hit the Chimes up for brunch before the game personally in your shoes. There really aren't any bars within walking distance of campus and you want no part of dealing with vehicle traffic. The tailgate scene will probably be pretty light, but I'm sure there will be some people out there on your walk to the stadium. Be outgoing and wear your team gear and you'll get welcomed by most people.
If there are any possible alternatives, don't do this.
Unless its some special service that is bringing you to your hotel. You don't want to be where the bus is going to let you off at night.

Probably need to head to campus fairly early for tailgating since game is so early

I would stay in NOLA Friday night and head to BR Saturday morning. BR is not a good college town other than Saturday tailgating and like others have said, an early game puts the damper on things and a shitty tiger team is another strike against any festivities. Actually, I would just stay in NOLA and watch the game at a bar there.

Try to go to chimes at some point. Walk ons after the game is always fun and walkable.
As far as tailgating, get there early and walk around. Approach people and tell them where you’re from and this is your first LSU game and they will welcome you in with open arms. Expect some good food and hospitality. The game should be fun regardless of how the season has gone. And be prepared to be surprised at how terrible the bathrooms are inside of the stadium.

Poor choice to experience Tiger Stadium...you will be nothing but disappointed with an 11:30 game to watch an imploding 5-5 LSU team play 2-7 Hogs.

Hit up Chimes on Highland Rd. Friday night or after the game Saturday. Walk Ons on Burbank is walking distance from the stadium if you need somewhere to chill while traffic dies down as well. For bars I'd say Uncle Earls (big patio and plenty of tv's for the night games) and Zee Zee's later in the evening. They are across the street from each other.
As people have said before - temper your expectations on the game atmosphere, but the weather should be really nice. Enjoy!

Yeah, we chose this at the beginning of the season when expectations were higher. It's alright, though! Just happy to experience a new place even if it's not up to it's usual standard.

Yeah just rent a car man. The drive from MSY to BR is a breeze. Even if you don't drive it anywhere else the money spent will be worth it to avoid riding a greyhound. It's not your average Midwest public transportation
