Curt Cignetti's buyout clause is a financial penalty if he leaves Indiana University for another job before his contract ends. As of his new contract in October 2025, the buyout is $15 million if he leaves before November 30, 2026, dropping to $12 million before November 30, 2027, and $9 million before November 30, 2028. This is a figure that another school would have to pay Indiana if they hired him.

He isn't leaving. Hire a younger guy and spend more on the portal.

The fact that he signed the extension in the first place is proof that he isn't leaving. If he wanted to go elsewhere this cycle, why sign the extension and make it harder?
