1. Parents got one for the grandkids. I never used one but Its my understanding these lights need to be running for a while, a few nights in a row even, for you to benefit from them. Well that brings us to....

2. Control freak neighbor across the pond who has asked my parents to turn the light off twice now. They had a similar issue with a different light 25 years ago when the same neighbor first moved in. They are apparently vehemently against having blinds and/or closing them at night time. Best i can i figure, the issue is just a bright green light (that doesnt even shine directly into the home) that they can see when they look out the window and it messes with their ambiance.

How much of a dick move is it for me or my dad to tell this guy to just pound sand, since hes essentially just asking us to put his interests over our own?

Option a, yield to the neighbor

Option b, leave the lights on and maybe one of those grandkids will fall in love with fishing which will lead him or her down a path that stays connected with nature and avoids alcohol and drugs.

Be just as “Karen”, as he is and tell him that his blinds up bother you because you can see his interior light shining outside of his house.

Get just as silly as he.

I have them. I have five 1000 watt bulbs. And I make them myself. But that is beside the point. You need to have them on every night or for several nights so the fish settle into your area. I'd say a week is a start. I'm glad my neighbors don't complain. I think mine can be seen from space. If your neighbors were shatty enough, they could come over and break your bulbs. I've replaced ten or twelve bulbs on my five lights. I think fishermen punch them with one ounce jigs. Finally, it is not your water and it is not theirs. I don't think they can force you to turn them off.

thanks. We just got the one that is mounted a few feet above the deck aiming down. Looks really cool in clear, fresh water compared to the brackish water that im used to seeing them in. It is very bright though and Im sure its annoying, but as long as im within the confines of the law, im struggling to see why i should give a s**t.

Mine are underwater lights. That likely is less of a nuisance than an above water light.

Do you like annoying neighbors? Do you like being an annoying neighbor?

I didn't know they even made green lights to aim down, just spend a little more and get a submersible. It'll bring just as many fish, even a cheap one will last fine in fresh water, and it won't be annoying.

Underwater green lights are cool to have as they bring in a lot of fish that you can easily see as they get back lit by the light. The fish can be caught, but you have to be very stealthy and its usually only one every 30-45 mins as they immediately get skittish. Anyone complaining about them is not worth acknowledging. They are less invasive imo than landscaping lights.

Overhead white/clear spot lights are the best to actually catch fish under and catch them consistently for a long stretch. They are absolutely hell on neighbors across a canal or pond, even at great distance. I am on a bay front and us and neighbors have them on frequently and you dont notice them. Go by a few hundred yards away in a boat and its like being on stage.

I have only encountered overhead green lights a few times buy they are getting more popular. Imo, they aren't an issue but they are fairly bright and glaring and I can understand people getting annoyed especially if no one else but you have them on and hey are directly in the line of fire. I have been told they are also not as productive for fishing as either of the other types as they don't penetrate the water column that well, but that's anecdotal.

Better check for restrictions first. The neighborhood I own property in has restrictions for above water lights for this reason. Only underwater allowed.
