In a Truth Social post, the president cited the cost of Walmart’s annual holiday meal, which, according to the retailer’s website, serves 10 people for under $4 per person this year. Last year, Walmart’s holiday meal served eight people for less than $7 per person, according to its website.

“2025 Thanksgiving dinner under Trump is 25% lower than 2024 Thanksgiving dinner under Biden, according to Walmart,” the president wrote. “My cost are lower than the Democrats on everything, especially oil and gas! So the Democrats “affordability” issue is DEAD! STOP LYING!!!”
LINK

But Trump’s claim wasn’t the whole truth

Walmart’s 2025 Holiday Meal contains only 15 items, while the company’s 2024 Holiday Meal included 29 items. This year’s basket nixes multiple Thanksgiving staples, including pecan pie, cranberry sauce, whipped cream, mini marshmallows, corn muffin mix, as well as fresh sweet potatoes, celery, and onions. Additionally, many of the name-brand items have been replaced by Walmart’s Great Value items.

He keeps stating in interviews that grocery prices are down. The fact that he could in any way think that a Thanksgiving dinner would be 25% less now than a year ago shows he really is out of touch with what is probably over the most important issue in most American households.

Wholesale turkey prices are projected to be around $1.32 per pound in 2025, a significant increase from the 2024 average of approximately $0.94 per pound. This 40% rise is attributed to lower turkey populations due to factors like avian flu outbreaks, a decrease in the number of turkeys raised by farmers, and general inflation.

2024 vs. 2025 turkey prices

2024: The average wholesale price was about $0.94 per pound.
2025: The average wholesale price is forecast to be $1.32 per pound.
Increase: This represents a 40% year-over-year increase.

Factors contributing to the price increase
Lower supply: A decrease in the number of turkeys raised is a primary driver.
Avian flu: Bird flu outbreaks have impacted flocks and led to shortages.
Inflation: General inflation is also contributing to the higher costs.

Don't you have to take a puddle jumper to get your groceries?

You just kicked the hornet's nest. The people on here have shown that they will gladly pay high prices if their favored politician is in office.

I’m just doing two roasted chickens, green beans casserole, macaroni and cheese, premade rolls and desert (apple pie). This will not break my bank.

Grocery prices are never going down, why were you led to believe they were and actually could?

Didn't Biden's Asian chick kill 30 million chickens and turkeys last year because of "flu"?

Their argument changes daily from "Prices are down!" to "Things have got to get worse to make them better!"

Grocery prices are going to be the tipping point here.

I doubt either are doing their own shopping, if they really believe this.

Prices are ridiclous. While Trump is an improvement over Biden the fact is cost keep climbing. Just did open enrollment for my insurance and rates went up 12%. It is starting to put pressure on me and my family which I haven't experienced in 15 plus years. My car insurance is 417 a month with no tickets or accidents. This will be unsustainble for most people if it continues. I am fortunate, but many around me are sinking.
