Your "that's enough internet for today" story but it's something many of us, or our family members, have faced or will face. Worth a read LINK

My wife was diagnosed 5 years ago. Luckily it has not progressed very much and does not interfere with our day to day , Yet.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but I understand.

Can't say I blame him. I don't want to live a day past when I can't take care of myself.

My dad passed from it. Just awful. He couldn’t remember who I was. Talk about gut wrenching…

Kind of funny, my mother remembered the dog when she had forgotten most everything else.

My mom was diagnosed with ALS at the end of November of last year and she was declining before the diagnosis, but today she has a feeding tube, she can't talk, she can't do anything. She has trouble breathing throughout the day, she can't swallow. She is getting near the end, but right before she wasn't able to talk she told us "I wish i could just take a pill when I go to sleep and just not wake up".

And honestly I wish that option was available for her. She is on hospice, but I think its cruel we keep people alive when they are in the late stages of ALS, Alzheimer's, etc. It takes every ounce of their dignity. And people with Alzheimer's, they get to a point they don't even notice their loved ones, people who have always been close to them, etc.

I know a few states allow assisted suicide, but I wonder if hospice companies and companies who own these homes where people with Alzheimer's live in lobby their state government to not make assisted suicide legal.

As much money and research has been put into this and other disease prevention programs, you’d think we’d be getting results. Nope.

When you get to the point that Hospice gives you the drops, that's kind of what it is. Morphine, but in sufficient dose it can so suppress the pulmonary system of a a person in that state that it quickens death. Only problem is that they're usually close to the end before they do it.

Alzheimers is a beast, but if I had to choose between it and ALS, I'd choose Alzheimers every time. ALS is a living nightmare where you are aware of everything and can do nothing about it.

They claim it doesn't hasten death, but if you've ever been around someone in that situation, it pretty clearly does, and that's all right.

My only problem with his action is he did it in such a way that his wife found him. He should have spared her that.
