Reminder: Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission Meeting Tomorrow
Posted on 11/5/25 at 2:35 pm
Posted on 11/5/25 at 2:35 pm
Tomorrow morning at 9:30 am in Baton Rouge. Meeting will address adjusting the Pogi Boat Buffer Zone. We need a major turnout of Louisiana Sportsmen to focus attention on this important issue threatening our state's redfish populations. LINK

It's already been decided, Jeff Landry in Action.

Jeff Landry nuked the agreement last time in favor of omega and the pogey industry. I doubt this goes any different

I realize we’re up against Pogi lobbyists’ contributions to the governor and others, but I still want to fight the uphill battle on behalf of our kids and grandkids’ fishing futures. Lets make it a $ vs votes decision!

I can’t make the meeting tomorrow but I’ve sent an email in opposition to the change

Bumping this. I may speak but I am limited on time.

Here too! Good turnout, so far. Come on down!

Good to hear. Hopefully they don't "kick the can down the road" like they are famous for doing when a large crowd shows up.

Overflow seating outside the conf room

This biologist or whatever who studied the bycatch is giving them cover to reduce the buffer zone. Decision has already been made.

Adopted the NOI. Kevin Sagrera is shameless.

Crooked MF’s on that commission! The evidence and comments were overwhelming against the proposal. The chairman pretty much did a commercial for the industry - against the sportsmen of this state…. Time to recall this crooked governor and his cronies. Sickening.

It was honestly embarrassing listening to Kevin Sagrera speak at the end. He could hardly complete a sentence. One of two things is true: either he’s just stupid, or he’s completely bought. In either case, he has no place on that commission.

Both are true and I agree he should have no place on that commission.

Would be nice to figure out how to make some noise on this and on a very high level.
The commission is represented by 3 commercial industry individuals out of 7 total, with Kevin as the Chairman and a commercial rep.
Based on a LDWF funded study, and performed by a 3rd party, the commercial fishing industry contributes $48MM in annual economic impact in Louisiana. In the same study, recreation fishing contributes $180 MM annually in economic impact in Louisiana. More than 3X the amount.
Using economic impact figures alone, the commission is overrepresented by the commercial industry and should not have more that 2 reps. The "at-large" appointees should have at least 3 times the members compared to commercial interest.
The commission needs to be 100% rebuilt AFTER Landry is voted out of office.
Edit to add:
This is what needs to be reviewed and rewritten
quote:
Section 7.
(A) Members; Terms. The control and supervision of the wildlife of the state, including all aquatic life, is vested in the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. The commission shall be in the executive branch and shall consist of seven members appointed by the governor, subject to confirmation by the Senate. Six members shall serve overlapping terms of six years, and one member shall serve a term concurrent with that of the governor. Three members shall be electors of the coastal parishes and representatives of the commercial fishing and fur industries, and four shall be electors from the state at large other than representatives of the commercial fishing and fur industries, as provided by law.

I mean that was really bad. I've heard more coherent dialogue from toddlers.

He's a pile of trash.
I'm no attorney, but CCA should file a Declaratory Judgement Action in the 19th JDC. The only way this bullshite stops is taking them to court. It would get negative press for LDWF and the Coonass putz Gov. Landry.
I would gladly donate to attorney's fees for this cause.
