Starting a new build as my old is about 8 years old. It is running fine but showing it's age and not up to being ready for gta6. Anyways, are you guys running tvs or monitors?

The only reason to use a TV is if your display is going to be so far away that you need a size only a TV can reasonably provide. Otherwise, monitors are practically always the better solution.

Ultrawide monitors are the ultimate immersive gaming experience.

Any recommendations?
If money is no issue and you have a very powerful PC to utilize it, I’d go with a 45” LG ultragear Oled 5k2k resolution up to 240hz
For a smaller and cheaper option, I’d probably go with the newest gen 34” Alienware Oled ultrawide.

What do you plan to play, at what resolution, at which settings, and at what target fps?

I mainly play RTS but I want to be set up for gta6. Immersion is probably the most important thing for me

Understood, but the answers to the rest of my questions are important as well.

Based on those specs, you want a monitor that is 1440p and around 144hz-240hz.
The Alienware ultrawide Oled I mentioned would be a great fit because it will have perfect contrast so colors will really pop and its ultrawide for that cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio… really nice for RTS games actually.

I haven’t researched monitors in years, so I don’t have an opinion on individual models, but I’ll second a 3440x1440 ultrawide, likely around 144hz.

I've got the Alienware AW3423DWF 34" 1440p OLED 165Hz monitor and it's been awesome. I'm running an i9 14900k & Nvidia 4090
I've actually got the 32" Alienware 4k OLED too, but haven't gotten around to unboxing it yet.

Monitor. All you need is 1440p and 60+ Hz.

How big of an issue is burn on the monitor?

Burn in is always a “problem” with oleds, but it’s kind of over exaggerated. As long as you aren’t leaving static images on your screen for really prolonged periods of time every day and allow the the monitor to do its pixel refresh maintenance thing, it should last a long time.
There is a YouTube channel called monitors unboxed where this guy has been purposely try to burn in an Oled using the worst case scenarios of use and maintenance if you want to see how it is.
