Anyone know of a recent “prove it deal” for a coach at a major Power 5?
We see it all the time for NFL players - lower base salary, short term contract, but heavy incentive based pay.
Seems like it might be appropriate if we hire a Sumrall or similar unproven coaches

The agents won't allow it to happen. How you gonna get Lane Kiffin to leave Ole Miss when he make 9 million a year and you only offer him 5 guaranteed with some incentives. The agents will just tell their clients to balk at this.

Ignore everything dumbo the governor said. Only pay attention to things said at the LSU press conference.
We going big game hunting.

LSU isn’t going cheap.
They aren’t going 10 years either
5 year/60 mill guaranteed with incentives and 30 mill/year for NIL

Easy. You meet in the middle. Don’t go to either extreme

30 mill/year for NIL
That would be a 50% increase from this roster's budget.

You see prove it deals for guys who have sucked for a few years, or have been injured. There’s nobody with consistent success that’s gonna say, let me prove to you my worth. You would have to take on an unknown project, or somebody that lost their touch like Jimbo. This is the most unrealistic idea you can come up with.

Will be tough to get a prove it deal with anyone when you saddle him with assistant coaches that are untouchable.

They don’t exist for high level “proven” coaches. Armstrong and Sexton control this situation and they aren’t going to go to their top guys and ask them to take a deal that’s a “prove it” or incentive laden deal.
Those contracts exist for the guys working their way up.
