On average 2M or 43.5% of Louisiana's population during 2024. With about 3 in 7 people enrolled in the program, Medicaid is one of the largest health insurers in Louisiana.
Just researching SNAP and I saw this.
I had no idea it was this high.

When you throw in those benefitting from the payments it's more like 60%.

Because we've become a nation of fricking freeloaders. Nothing short of a purge will clean it up.

Statistics tells a more uncomfortable story than that. I’ll just leave it at that.

One, of many, reasons cost of care for those on private coverage has gone up so much. The reimbursement rates for medicaid patients is crazy low. I have't looked at it in forever, but a while back I think the generalization was the hospital loses money on medicaid patients, breaks even on medicare, and has to make all their money on private.
I'm not excusing the admin bloating that has gone on at hospitals, just pointing out another factor in the long list as to why things are so absurd with our health industries.

I wonder what demographic is 40+ percent
Posted on 10/30/25 at 3:45 pm to Deuces
Less than 50% of Americans have a full time job

And a large chunk of the rest work for the state, that’s why the budget of Louisiana is as big as states with 4 times the population.

Guarantee the "vast majority"?

Not just Medicaid
Counties with Largest Increases in Food Stamps Since 2010 Went for Trump in 2020
LINK
"Among the 2,021 counties registering an increase in food stamp use, 78.7 percent favored Trump and only 21.3 percent cast a majority of votes for President Biden, highlighting the disproportionate reliance on food stamps among Republican-leaning counties. "
Behind the Curtain: The Republican welfare state
LINK
Rural areas, in particular, grew dramatically dependent on everything from Medicaid to food programs as good, higher-paying jobs disappeared.
Overwhelmingly, these counties vote Republican. The transfer payments are funded in part by taxpayers in rich blue areas.

How many people making $24,000 a year have a mortgage?

. It’s not uncommon in the agricultural south to see farmers with all kinds of nice personal property and land having their families on it. I’m sure other self employed folks cheat the system, too
