BCBS went up to nearly $3000/month for my family of 5. I make a really nice living and this still hurts. Has anyone found any other more affordable options?

Lord that’s what we have and ours is $1500. Me, spouse one kid that I need to drop.

We’re 56 and 55. Good health.

shite sucks.

ETA: are you a grandfathered plan Oran Obamacare plan? We’re grandfathered and we lost that if we change anything deductible or copay wise. We’re told our cost would go up.

It seems that they are trying to make prices so high that we will all demand subsidies.

You need to try a different provider. At that point I would just self insure unless your family has health problems

I believe the republicans only plan is to let the insurance market self implode on itself until there’s no other choice but to completely change it. No one is going to come to an agreement until then. We’re almost there

self insure

i've been considering this option very strongly recently. i have a HD plan with HSA through my company which is great because they give us 3k throughout the year. if i just drop the insurance i could save 7500 a year aside for any health events. if i keep the plan i still pay the 7500 a year plus need to hit 6k deductible so in an event where i need the insurance id be paying out 14k that year. its got me questioning just how catastrophic does the event need to be before the insurance is worth it?

for example my two kids both had hospital visits for the same exact thing but a month apart (pneumonia swab). For some reason the hospital charged insurance for the first child, but for the second child we received a bill that wasnt ran through insurance. The charges were the same ($900 total bill), but the second child's bill had a "uninsured discount" that discounted $700 from the total bill. so out of pocket i paid more for the insured ($300) as opposed to the uninsured ($200)

its got me really considering no insurance.

A high deductible plan for me for four was about $300 a month out of pocket.

DO NOT SELF INSURE !!!!!!!!!!

I never carried insurance in my 20's and 30's because I was in great shape and thought I was invincible. Thank God I decided to start carrying it at 40. I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer 8 years later. Without health insurance, I would never be able to afford my treatments.

there are cancer specific policies that are much cheaper than these outrageous HD plans. my wife carries one for like $6 a month because she has a history of cancer in her family.

Our income fluctuates A LOT from year to year and this makes me scared of the subsidy route. Idk if I’ll ever know what we truly pay or if we end up needing to pay more, it could be substantial.

Basically I’m scared to change anything.

Yeah Pezzo, you might want to look a little deeper into that.
