The Windows 10 end-of-support deadline is driving the largest coordinated PC replacement cycle in years across the industry, and Apple is emerging as one of the main beneficiaries as Mac shipments accelerate.

Counterpoint Research this week reported that nearly 40% of the global installed PC base was still running Windows 10 ahead of the October 2025 cutoff, triggering early fleet renewals across both commercial and consumer channels. This pressure lifted shipments for most large brands, and the Mac is among the strongest gainers. According to Counterpoint, Apple's global Mac shipments grew 14.9% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2025, supported by demand for new MacBook models and rising enterprise adoption of Apple hardware.

Good old law of unintended consequences at work

Our huge company is going around with cloned PCs with windows 11 and replacing every single one. Thousands of them. It's wild.

You don't think they did this for W7 and W10?

No. They upgraded the OS sometimes. They can't do that even though the computers are fairly new because of the processor requirement.

Wtf? Were they giving away the computers the last 2 years too?

Does it even occur to you how many consumers had no interest in replacing their perfectly fine Win 10 computers by having to shell out & buying an expensive new computer the last 2 years even with it coming with "Free" Win11?

So the numbers lie? And this market share boost happens right at the same time the public is waking up to the fact that Win10 is no longer being supported? This happens right now when even as it's not well known that Microsuxs is suddenly crawfishing on dropping its demands for paid Win10 Security updates?

That would give me nightmares. I'm busy enough doing remote upgrades to ~600 (with most of our sites having only enough bandwidth for one computer at a time).
