LSU going full Air Raid for the rest of the season?

quote:

Tim Rattay, an NCAA-record holding quarterback and eight-year NFL veteran, joined the LSU staff in February of 2025 as serves as an offensive analyst for the Tigers.

Rattay arrived at LSU after spending the past five seasons as the quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma State, helping the Cowboys to 40 wins and four bowl appearances, including a 37-35 win over Notre Dame, in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl.

He coached quarterbacks for the NFL’s Washington Commanders for one season (2019) after six years on the coaching staff at Louisiana Tech where he worked alongside current LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.

In his five years at Oklahoma State, Rattay helped groom some of the top quarterbacks in program history. In 2023, Alan Bowman threw for 3,460 yards – the seventh-highest single-season total in program history and finished the year ranked No. 15 nationally in passing yards. He also finished No. 7 in the nation and No. 4 in OSU history in completions with 304.

In 2022, OSU senior Spencer Sanders led the Big 12 and ranked No. 14 nationally with 303.3 passing yards per game. As a junior, Sanders became only the second quarterback in Oklahoma State history to earn first-team All-Big 12 honors after leading the league with 269.8 yards of total offense a contest.

Sanders capped his junior season as the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP after finishing with 371 passing yards and four touchdowns to go with 125 rushing yards on 17 carries. Sanders joined former Clemson’s Tajh Boyd as the only FBS players to record 350 pass yards, 100 rush yards and four touchdowns in a bowl game, and his performance was a critical piece of engineering the largest come-from-behind win in Oklahoma State and Fiesta Bowl history.

Prior to joining the Oklahoma State staff, Rattay spent the 2019 season as the quarterbacks coach for the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

Rattay spent six seasons (2013-18) on the coaching staff at his alma mater Louisiana Tech, helping the Bulldogs to a 46-33 overall mark, two Conference USA Western Division titles and a 5-0 mark in bowl games. He coached the wide receivers for three years (2013-15) before taking over as quarterbacks coach from 2016-18.

In 2016, Rattay coached Ryan Higgins, who finished the season with 329 completions for 4,617 yards and 41 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. Higgins was honored as the Conference USA Most Valuable Player that season. He also helped develop quarterback J’Mar Smith at Louisiana Tech, who went on to earn Conference USA Offensive Player of the Years honors in 2019.

Rattay got his start in coaching as wide receivers coach for two seasons (2011-12) with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League.

As a player, Rattay was one of the most explosive quarterbacks in college football in his three years at Louisiana Tech. He finished his career at Tech ranked No. 2 in the NCAA history for passing yards (12,746) and passing yards in a season (4,943 in 1998). He remains the FBS record holder for career passing yards in a game with 386.2.

In his 33-game career at Louisiana Tech, Rattay passed for 12,746 yards and 115 touchdowns. He also led Louisiana Tech to two wins over Alabama during his career, beating the Crimson Tide, 26-0, in 1997 and then again, 29-28, in 1999.

As a senior in 1998, Rattay led the nation in passing yards (4,943), passing TDs (46) and passing yards per game (411.9). In 1997. Rattay led the Bulldogs to a 9-2 overall mark, the win over Alabama along with a victory over California.

Rattay was selected in the seventh round (No. 212 overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers and spent six seasons with the team. His NFL career included stops in Tampa Bay in 2006, Tennessee in 2007 and Arizona in 2007. Rattay appeared in 40 games in his career with 18 starts and finished 432-of-714 passing for 4,853 yards with 31 touchdowns.

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Rattay started his collegiate playing career at Scottsdale Community College in 1996 before transferring to Louisiana Tech in 1997. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in general studies and is married to the former Allison Walker, who played volleyball for LA Tech. The couple has three children, Riley, Taylor and Sloane. Rattay was enshrined into the Louisiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

Why not give it a shot. All he has to do is pick a play, any random play, and at least it would be the same ol. If he uses any logic at all it should be an improvement.

Not great, but it can’t be much worse than Sloan’s discombobulated spin a wheel to pick a play style.

Just use some common sense

Not anywhere near the amount that should be required to call plays at LSU.

I would rather Alex Atkins if Sloan were let go. Atkins was Norvell's scapegoat from the DJ Unga-lay-an-egg cluster frick.

Not sure, but I know it’s more than 1 season at La Tech.

Are you done playing dumb or do you have another question?

You're the one who erroneously stated that Sloan had no experience.

You then moved the goalpost to him not having enough experience necessary.

You followed that up by admitting that you have no idea how much experience is actually needed.

Perhaps I am "playing dumb," it doesn't seem like you're playing though.

Not really. This season is over. New coach will want to hire his own staff. You expecting to win out or something after BK was fired?

Correct, you are playing stupid. Unless you support hiring an OC with 1 season of calling plays at a group of 5 school.

If that’s the case it might not be an act.

Only thing I know is that watching him college was fun. Dude was an animal in that offense

Rattay to Edwards was unstoppable
Edwards had 405 yards receiving in a game
