My proposal: $8 mil/year with incentives; 5 year initial guarantee

I would try this format were I the AD:
$8 million per year, 75% guaranteed (so $30 million guaranteed)
But load it with incentives:
* $1 Million qualify for SEC CG
* $1 Million win the SEC CG
* $2 Million qualify for the playoffs
* $1 Million for each playoff round won (or $1 million additional for earning first round bye). 12/8/4/2 - possible to earn $4 million here
* $3 Million win the national championship
So in a NC year, coach would earn up to $19 million
Additionally, any year in which he wins at least 10 games, contract is automatically guaranteed for the next 5 years
Additionally, any year in which he wins the SEC, the base pay goes up $1 Million; should he win the natty, base pay goes up $2 million

These AD's could come together and end these ridiculous buyouts if they wanted. Quit letting these agents hold your program hostage.

What good does this do?
We'd still be fricked with Kelly with this in a contract for his first 2 10 win seasons.

Had we had Kelly under these terms, we would have been in year 2 of his current renewed 5 year contract and would have only owed him $18 for the remaining 3 years

Agreed. This proposal would see the potential coach earn more than any of his peers should he meet our goals and his, and provide opportunity for long term security due to continued success.
