LSU fans will be putting a lot of pressure on him to keep the next buyout low. But any decent coach will realize the chance of him finishing his contract without being fired is low, so he will want the largest buyout possible. This puts Woodward in a very difficult position.

Take a chance on a young, hungry coach with less financial commitment. But I’m sure Woodward will invest in another geriatric.

The era is these long term deals is coming to an end. It is simply is not feasible for schools to do this in the era of NIL/portal. Coaches will make big money but expect 5 year deals not 10. Jimmy Sexton has bent over CFB for a long time, but the math simply is not there anymore. There is only so much willing booster money to pay for stupid buy outs and fund NIL.

It's kind of like part of the job that Woodward gets paid millions to do: navigating contracts

Most would be happy to take the pressure off him by not allowing him to negotiate the next coach's contract.

Woodward? You think he's going to have the keys after he just totalled 100m lambo?

Truly sad that an AD has to live with his decisions.
On who can he place the blame?
He hired Kelly.
He had to OK the hiring of all the assistant coaches.
He hasn't chosen to fire any of them.

Oh dear, Oh dear.

Damn you Orgeron!

Coaches contracts should be five years with more clauses built in that trigger extensions and raises based on performance.

If you listen to the fans you'll end up next to them at the games.

Hell, we're in this situation because he was afraid to hire a rising star and had to take whatever big name would come here.

Then hire an unknown commodity who’s desperate to win at the highest level.

Then he should forfeit some salary to fix it

It’s going to have to be someone like J Sumrall of Tulane,Brian Brohm Louisville, etc. Those are probably won’t demand the huge salary and buyout.F paying Lane 11+ a year while having never won a conference or NC in his career. At least BK had won 250 + games and played fo a NC.

Agreed. But that era will be far from over when we need a coach.

Kiffin will be making 13-15 million dollars a year next year on a long term deal.

go get a young coach with a small school that has demonstrated an ability to understand winning football. It all. translates regardless of what league it is...football is football. Pay him double what he presently makes, and give him lots of large incentives. Then use the extra funds to buy the players he will need to win. Giving money to old HC's is a dinosaur model in this new NIL mess.
If LSU goes for the high dollar hc and staff again, LSU football is doomed.
Sorry, but that is just the way it is in this new environment called NIL.

He shouldn't be put in that position. He should be fired before the coaches.
