My CSB regarding IT is that the old lady in the apartment in the sequel is my friend’s grandmother.

Certified fresh at 78% on Rotten Tomatoes currently. Some review snippets:

quote:

Set in 1962 and steeped in mid-century suburban fantasy as much as the mysticism of "IT," "Derry" packs its scares with some thoughtful meditations about race and Americana.

quote:

It: Welcome to Derry is an immersive prequel series that balances compelling narratives and characters with blood-soaked horror and delightfully disgusting effects.

quote:

Amid the paranoia of the Cold War, the eight-episode season (critics received five for review) has many eerie elements, including its parallels to the present day. Black and Indigenous Derry residents are barely tolerated, but the horrors of the Jim Crow South, where the National Guard is beating down protesters, play on television screens in the background. Moreover, the show takes the trope of the Magical Negro, bending and twisting it on itself to prove Black people aren’t required to fix the broken systems they didn’t create.

quote:

Way before we ever see the iconic Pennywise, so much terrifying stuff has already happened. IT: Welcome to Derry may be one of the scariest horror productions in a long time.

quote:

A terrifying exploration of the lore of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, offering more insight, and more scares.

quote:

While Welcome to Derry excels as supernatural horror, it’s also a powerful examination of the horror that exists within society itself. Sometimes fear comes from the shadows; other times it’s built into the world around you — in prejudice, silence, and generational wounds.

quote:

The show explores both kinds of fear with equal intensity. It tackles racism, social injustice, and systemic cruelty while tying them directly into Derry’s curse. The addition of Joshua Odjick and Kimberly Guerrero as Rose brings an essential layer of representation to the story. Through their characters, the series connects the town’s haunting evil to its Indigenous roots, acknowledging that this entity existed long before settlers gave it a name.

They’re gonna have Pennywise turn into a klansman aren’t they?

Hmm. From that i can see the usual people won't like it.
Or the people they listen to won't like it.

I have no doubt this thread will have ample posts from posters that aren't actually watching the show.

Yeah that was crazy. Damn
Only issue I had was men break into an officers room. And they are just like "its ok we chased them off" wouldn't they have side arms in their locker?
.

Idk. Mutant baby is terrifying. You can tell the girls are going to get blamed.

Yeah, I enjoyed it well enough I guess. My only slight complaints is that the child actors are fine, but not great. I was hoping for early stranger things type skill.

It’ll be interesting to see what the USAF thing and how the special projects are connected to Pennywise. By and large, aren’t the adults under some kind of spell and largely ignore what’s going on? Having an adult led subplot might be interesting.

Well most of the kids they introduced were killed off. I was thinking one more would die. But that little girl. That was messed up. And the other girl is already seen as crazy so she's going to likely be blamed.

That was brutal. Didn’t think we’d get kids being ripped in half. Going to be a wild show if they keep this up.

Solid first episode.

And not bashful about killing off kids that you felt were being set up for the series. Nice.
