When I was a single man, I would always take a girl on our first date to Giovanni's on a Friday night. They would never card us when we ordered wine, it was pretty cheap but never looked that way, and they would always give the lady a rose. I guess Ruffino's would be the date place for my wife and I now, but what are your places you take the significant others?

I think Tsunami is great for that (in Baton Rouge). In New Orleans I think Rock N Sake is a great first date place.

MUCH better for mothers day IMO

personally, i always loved a place like Miyako

decently priced, good food and a fun atmosphere with the hibatchi or could make it more "romantic" if you wanted a small table for 2 and split a sushi boat

just take the dinner as the date brings it

plus, you giving the decision to her "would you like a table for 2 or sit at the hibatchi bar" may give you a hint is she is into you

Favorite is Gino's. Little Village is probably the best but a little too $$$ to frequent.

Gino's is a tad bit less expensive which means I can go a couple more times per year.

In BR for a special occasion I choose from:

Little Village or Maison Lacour

For a normal date night It varies.. I do really like to enjoy a good meal at Louisiana Lagniappe but only if I get there early the wait can be bad.

It's a little out of the way, but Roberto's is a really cool place to take a chick. I like the scenery on river road, and the building is a really cool old place. The food has never disappointed me.

For some reason this reminds me of the time a friend took a Chimes waitress (he didn't know this about her at the time...) out to a first date at the Chimes.

He still gets shite about that.

I brought my current gf there for our first date and it was probably one of the best first dates I have ever been on. It's kinda of a hidden place in uptown that is not like some of the steriotypical places you could bring a first date on in nola.

Call me a cheap arse, but the past 3 girlfriends I have had all started off at Sammy's. 1st was short lived, 2nd went 2 years and the 3rd I am marrying in July.

I see no point in spending lots of dough on something that may or may not pay dividends. If it works out, then go to your expensive places.
