I hate that whole viewpoint that the criminals shouldn't be punished because they haven't been caught for years. The fact that they got away with their crime for years should actually be a reason to give them even harsher sentencing. The statute of limitations is basically a reward for further bad behavior by the criminal. It's basically rewarding the criminal for hiding evidence and threatening witnesses and refusing to turn themselves in to the police for years.

Criminal statutes of limitations are also really bizarrely short. Statute of limitations are 3-4 years for felonies in Florida. The statute of limitations is 5 years in federal court. People seem to think that the statute of limitations is 20 years or something like that, but it's actually not even close to that.

And statute of limitations are basically an entirely American thing that doesn't exist in any other country in the world. You can look up UK and Canada newspapers and see people there get prosecuted for crimes that occurred 25 years ago. Interesting how the soft on crime liberals who want to emulate Europe and Canada never mention that.

Your faith in our criminal justice system and the government that oversees it is noted.

It's a no, dawg. I get your sentiment, but are you familiar with Three Felonies a Day?
quote:

The phrase "three felonies a day" refers to the idea that the average American unknowingly commits multiple federal crimes daily due to the vast and vague nature of federal laws. This concept highlights concerns about overcriminalization and the potential for innocent individuals to be prosecuted

Swedes are not deporting child rapist illegals because the rape didn't last long enough.

The populace should not live in a state of fear, just in case someone decides to pay attention ten years later. Different states have different statutes of limitations on murder, but most crimes are not nearly that serious. The US has prosecuted plenty of serial killers, ex Nazis guards, etc., decades after the fact.;

Government needs fewer ways to screw citizens. Especially in the age of cell phone data, facial recognition, financial transaction monitoring, etc., if you can't build a case, you didn't have a case.

Your lack of understanding law tells me everything.

Felonies =/= federal law.
Violating a tax law is federal. Commiting a felony in La says you intentionally committed a violation of law that severely deprived someone.

In your lecture, you forgot that there are federal felonies...
