I was there and remember it well.
I was also there when it happened again....
It was under Nick Saban. I believe we were playing Miss. State so it didn't matter, but it happened.

A&M actually won the coin toss. They deferred they're 'choice' until the 2nd half. LSU then used their election to kick off to start the game. A&M used their 2nd half election to receive the post-halftime kickoff.

Curly knew Richie had a cannon for a leg (before DiNardo over used him) and wanted to see him boot it out of the end zone (rare back then) to start the game. No excuse but just Curly.
