The “You’re Spoiled” comment by Kelly to Reporters

I keep going back to this comment Kelly made after Cauble asked him about running back production. I have no idea what he meant by this comment and why he even said it. Did he mean we were spoiled by our success as a program? What a dumb thing to say and knew he was cooked when he said it. I feel this comment was a big moment in his tenure and this is when the cracks started to take place and he couldn’t live up to the expectations of the program. frick him.

There’s no doubt that singular comment was the beginning of the end for him in terms of the fan base turning on him. You’re goddam right we’re spoiled, and we demand to continue to be spoiled. shite or get off the pot, Brian.

Hell LSU is the only thing in this state people have, they've gotten used to it being a winning program and they are spoiled.

This is how I took it.
And I think the subtext was, you're delusional. I think what he meant was "These expectations are nuts, you all expect to compete for the national title every year, I've never been around a fanbase this rabid. This is insanity, you want everything."
And I think he's right. I don't think any LSU fan with a lick of awareness thinks we aren't "spoiled."
But we aren't children and the coach isn't the parent. The fans, the beat writers, the alumni, the donors, etc. are here to stay. The coach is transient. We may be spoiled, but personally I don't care. At the end of the day, I want this program to compete for national titles. Every year. Will there be an 8-4 year here and there? Sure. But the standard should be 10-2 and playoffs every year. If you keep in state talent in state, you will get those results.
Miles was here for 11 full seasons. In those full seasons he averaged 10-11 wins and 2-3 losses (10.6 - 2.9 to be exact).
So yeah, we are spoiled. We've seen what happens when the coach takes advantage of arguably the most-talent rich region in the country.

Such a bad comment. He might as well say “I’m just here for the money at this point”.

This is my opinion, as well.

This is the problem with his statement. If he did not realize the expectations and the level of press scrutiny he would have, that's on him.
But I think he knew what he was getting, and that was an impulse swipe when he was still smarting from an embarrassing performance, hence the subsequent apology.

I don't think that is realistic based on the past performances of every coach at LSU. Roughly every other year is probably about right, maybe it could be elevated to 2 out of 3 years. Of course, the right coach might bump that up to every year like Saban did for Alabama (for most of his tenure, at least, they would have made the 12 team playoffs).

2-loss seasons or better regular seasons in 6 of those, in fact, 6 of his first 8. I suspect if Perrilloux had not been stupid, that may have been 8 of his first 8. Then who knows what the trajectory of the program looks like, or if Lee and Jefferson end up living up to the expectations they had coming in.

That reaction told me all I needed to know about our chances under his leadership. Complete defensive reaction by him. Either he thinks we’re dumb or he knew deep down there were problems and didn’t want to admit it. A true LSU fan knows excellence when we see it, and we know the traits needed for a team to have a chance to win a championship.
Brian Kelly and Nussmeier hid Nuss’ injuries to the detriment of the team. Brian Kelly failed to address the offensive line struggles and the inconsistent play calling from his low-rent Offensive Coordinator. And now we’re pretty much out of it, facing the reality that it would take a miracle to run the table, running the table mind you with the same personnel and coaches.
We are in year 5 now with an expanded 12-team playoff and we’ve really not even been close to getting in under his tenure. He is a top 5 paid coach, or was until recently. But we’re not getting Top 5 program results from him, just excuses.
I’m done with him. And I think he knows the fan base is too. This was the year we had all of the pieces to get over the hump, a fifth year senior QB and a greatly improved and expensive defensive roster, and we’re practically out of it 7 games in. That’s why his demeanor at the press conferences has changed after these two losses, from beating on desks and yelling at reporters to this deer in the headlights, almost stoic posture. He knows it’s another year of not making the playoffs.
Goodbye Brian.

...doesn't make sense anymore given the fans are directly paying the players through NIL. In fact I'd say aside from Green Bay Packers season ticket holders, major college football fanbases have the most right to complain.

The man who makes $10 million dollars a year wether he wins or loses a kids game calling people who make meager wages working a 9 to 5 spoiled is peak insanity

I agree. I know in 08 and 09 I was beginning to think it really was just Saban's players in 05/06/07 and 08/09 we began to see his downfall.
What a rebound for Miles, though. 10 we were fricking good. 11 was insane. 12-13 we were good, we just happened to be fighting the best CFB Dynasty every year. 14-15, I think you saw Miles unwillingness to get with the change in offensive style that the rest of the country was taking. He was still getting really good guys here, he just refused to adapt offensively.
With Kelly, it seems much less like a refusal to adapt than he doesn't understand how to utilize the talent here effectively. He can't evaluate the OLine nearly as well as he thinks he can. He straight up lies to everyone. The sad part is we are rabid, but we are forgiving. I think if he came out next week, and went up to the podium and just admitted everything a lot of people would be back on board. Maybe not even the majority, but he'd gain a lot of goodwill. But he continues to double down and lie week after week.

This was the final straw for me with Kelly. fricking right I’m spoiled. You knew the expectations when you took the job. This proves that he just doesn’t get it. Go look at Saban’s press conferences after ugly wins. Dude was breathing fire at his team and explaining how the process is more important than the results.

Yeah, and he never fails to prove it

As in before him. We were spoiled if you’re talking about competing, giving LSU a chance each week, producing anything that resembled a running game, etc.

Well, coach Johnson, coach Mulkey and coach Clark understand this expectation and embrace it, same as coach Saban always did.
