A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage has caused widespread internet disruptions this morning, taking down dozens of popular apps, games, and websites including Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Ring. Users began reporting problems at approximately 8 AM UK time (midnight PT), with the tracking website Downdetector showing massive, simultaneous spikes in outage reports for services that rely on Amazon’s cloud infrastructure.

The issue appears to stem from problems at Amazon’s massive data center facilities in North Virginia, a critical hub for the global internet.

I was having all kinds of weird shite happen on Thursday and Friday last week as well.. Some sites would load on my AT&T fiber, others wouldn't. Turn off WIFI and everything was fine. Wife couldn't remote access Ochsner systems on our wifi or 5G.

Definitely something weird going on

Amazon’s own services seem to be unaffected. Kindle works fine.

One of my favorite things to do at work is call the IT guys at their desk and ask for help with an issue over the phone. I am senior enough they don’t say No but you can hear in their voices (every single time) how unhappy they are to help without a damn ticket.

I never believe things like this are just "whoops were having technical difficulties, sorry for the inconvenience"

Like that ATT outage last year , I think it was last year.

US-East-1 is used extensively but this is why you configure your infrastructure to be HA.

My Ring startled me... took a peek to see if it worked and only saw one vehicle in the driveway- there's supposed to be two.

Thank goodness my window still works- there are indeed two vehicles in my driveway after-all.

My Ring feed thumbnail is from 4 days ago... never seen it do that before.

I hope this doesn't affect my eufy robovac delivery coming today.
