If it's such a relief to you, then why did you ever watch in the first place?

It’s a little sad if you let it control your weekends no matter how well the team is doing.

The NIL era killed my interest.

I still care about lsu football and will watch, but the intensity is waaaay down.

Some fans get so wrapped up in LSU football's success (or lack thereof), that when the primary goals are out of reach (NC, SEC title, etc.), it's a relief to not be all consumed with LSU football. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's not indicative of being a bandwagon fan. It's just that when LSU turns mediocre, you have to focus on the future (where there is promise) rather than the present (where there is frustration). That doesn't make anyone else less of a fan. Judge yourself, not others.

/\ THIS /\

Even when we were winning - I was having trouble maintaining my life-long dedication to "LSU FOOTBALL" = I grew up watching freshman mature into serviceable players or leave to concentrate on their degree. Our hero's had been known for years and we watched them develop.

NOW - it's like a brand new year each season - looking to see what 'big daddy' decided to buy for us to toy with for a year & then discard.

have grown cynical = a new yo-yo doesn't have the appeal it did back when I was six.

oh yeah -

I agree. You said it perfectly. I accept things have forever changed in college football, but my total emotional investment has waned. Im still a proud LSU fan, but I accept the fact that with these changes I cant let it affect my mental health for months at a time.

He is basically saying he is obsessed or not interested, depending on if they are winning or not. Isn't that exactly what a fairweather fan would say?

Define fairweather fan.

And I am a huge fan and have been for a long time but I would advise not being all consumed with any sport.

Everyone should be themselves. I would also say don't be obsessed with sports to the exclusion of other things in life. But if you want to say there is nothing wrong with being a fairweather fan, then at least own the moniker.

That's a slightly different category; a bandwagon fan is typically seen as someone who chooses to root for a team because they are winning. A fairweather fan is usually considered someone who roots for their team when they are winning but is dismissive or ambivalent when they are not.

You can root for the team while looking to the future.

Opinions may vary on that.
