Former Boxing Champion Ricky Hatton died by suicide

I saw this news item when I opened my homepage earlier today. Hatton died by suicide by hanging as confirmed by the British Press.
His well-documented bouts of depression and dealing with mental illness over the years finally caught up with him and that is a sad situation.
When the story of his death first came out I had a feeling it was going to be something like this, but wished it wasn't. He potentially had a long life to live with being in his mid 40's, had made enough money to live in comfort and by all accounts had reconnected with his family after their relationship got strained for one reason or another.
That's just sad all around. RIP Champ

This is one of those that makes you question fate for certain people. I feel like this was always going to happen to Ricky. RIP champ.

He died in late September and his body was held until his burial just a couple days ago. I'm guessing an autopsy was done but don't know if they did that type examination on the brain to see if CTE could have been a cause.
On another note, I saw an article about MMA fighter B.J. Penn who has been really going off the deep end for a while now. So much so that his mother had put a restraining order against him due to violence toward her by her son.
Could be years of combat in the octagon and the associated training to do so has taken a toll on him and he's not thinking clearly.
It's no secret many former boxers and other combat sport participants suffer from Pugilistic Dementia. The list of former boxing champions having mental health issues is pretty shocking.

dont know why people do this to their families....its so selfish and traumatizes them. but maybe its CTE and in that case I can understand

I vaguely recall watching a short documentary about Hatton. That loss to Manny really did a number on him mentally.

Ricky Hatton's fights were always so full of energy from the Brits. It was like a soccer crowd but during a boxing match.

Guess you've never seen the big dart tournaments that the PDC puts on. The crowds are insane, singing, costumes like it is Mardi Gras, many not paying attention to the darts from what I can see.
More or less just a reason to get pissed up on pints and party.

Hatton only had 3 losses in his career and all 3 by stoppage. He got KO'd by Mayweather, then he got stopped by Pacquaio and took a long break from the sport.
Then he tried a comeback and fought a guy he would have beaten with ease when in his prime, but Father Time said no and Ricky got stopped again and hung up the gloves.
He lost to 2 future Boxing Hall of Fame fighters and that last fight to a guy who got KO'd by, of all people, Paulie Malignaggi whose punch couldn't break a wet paper bag. He had 7 KO's in 44 pro bouts.
Losing to Mayweather and Pacquaio is nothing to be ashamed of.

Haven’t watched the doc, but getting knocked the frick out twice usually doesn’t end up well.
