A Zachary man pleaded guilty to a bank robbery at a Baton Rouge Regions Bank, the same bank he was convicted of robbing in 2014.

Quarles Harris, 52, pleaded guilty to the May bank robbery on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to one count each of bank robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a firearm.

According to arrest and court records, Harris robbed $2,800 from the Regions branch on South Sherwood Forest on May 8. During the robbery, two "concerned citizens" stepped up and were able to get the gun away from the man and "subdue" him until law enforcement arrived to arrest Harris.

It was later learned that Harris had robbed the same bank in April 2014 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The robbery in May 2025 took place a little shy of one year after he was released from prison.

I know a guy that used to rob banks to support his crack habit. Ole baw from West Monroe. He used to go in and hand the teller a note. No gun involved. He eventually got caught and spent time in the pokey. Now he’s clean and you would never guess he was the type to do all that bs.

Maybe he needed health insurance or he just missed prison

quote:

James Verone (2011): This North Carolina man, who was unemployed and without health insurance, robbed a bank of just $1. He sat down and waited for police to arrive, hoping to receive medical care in prison for several conditions he could not afford to treat.

Donald Santacroce (2023): In Utah, a man robbed a bank of $1 for the express purpose of getting arrested and sent to federal prison.

Martin Sheetermeer (2025): In Appleton, Wisconsin, a man told police that he had recently lost his job and "would rather be in jail than be homeless" after robbing a Wells Fargo bank.

Tommy Ray McAdoo (2017): A 77-year-old man in Nevada robbed a bank with a steak knife, telling authorities that he was homeless, cold, and scared, and wanted to return to prison.

Tim Alsip (2013): In Portland, Oregon, a homeless man robbed a bank of $1, then sat down in the lobby and waited for police. He did so to get free medical care in jail

Risking years in prison for $2,800 is certainly a choice

In the past year, every news agency attaches that disclaimer to every photo. That's what's annoying.

Funniest I ever saw…..Bank robbed in Cheyenne, WY.

Robber walked out the door and down the street.

We later learned a call was made to the police department about a man buying drinks in a bar one block away from the bank.bank wrappers on the stacks of bills.

Cops walked in. Robber stood, held out his hands….”took you guys a long time.”
