Why are we assuming it is LSU students who are the ones involved in the shootings, etc?

Every thread about the shootings and the questionable element around campus on gameday seems to think the types of students LSU admits is the problem.

I am not saying it is or it isn't, but I feel like it is very possible that it is mainly people who are totally unaffiliated with LSU causing trouble.

I think the ones walking around prior to the game see it as like some festival or something that they can just show up to, walk around dressed how they want to dress, enjou the festivities, and smoke all of the skunky weed they can get hold of in public where they likely won't face consequences.

The people involved in the in-game shootings seem to have spilled over from whatever has been going on at the smoke shop near the Chimes. People have mentioned a block party with rap music?

I don't like LSU's new "inclusive, non-merit based" admissions standards at all...but I think it is a leap to blame all the problems the last 2 home games completely on that. I have a feeling it is mostly a large group of opportunistic undesirables who have found their way to campus. Hopefully the fad wears off soon.

If there isnt a noticeably larger police presence near Highland & Dalrymple for the next game, I will be shocked and dismayed.

There was a big presence of these party goers at S. Stadium and Highland.

Several of us ranters witnessed girls and guys running down the sidewalk as if they were in fear for their lives.

Eesh. I was thinking it was confined to Highland and Dalrymple area. That sucks.

But I still don't think it is mainly an LSU student problem.

Partially because those who are students incite those who aren’t?

It’s just like when the basketball goal ends up on the street in front of one house…what ultimately happens? One DEI student admitted to LSU brings a whole lot of baggage with them.

It’s the “teens”. Don’t you know that?

It’s NOT LSU students carrying hand guns around.

The violence that has been witnessed around campus has to come to an end. Whether its on the parade grounds where a bunch of teens congregate or any of the other pockets on campus where tailgating happens.

S. Stadium and Highland was an event where armed law enforcement was present for the entire event. What happened that caused the running??? Not sure...should be a question that LSU PD and BRPD should answer as they were there.

"One DEI student admitted to LSU brings a whole lot of baggage" - these narrowminded takes by our peers need to be called out at every opportunity that comes. Opinions that are not based in facts.

The individuals carrying hand guns on campus probably can’t even spell LSU

How’s that? You either got the grades or you don’t. It’s not Harvard. The standard to get in is another problem but if you can’t get in on merit…frick off

That being said, I’d be willing to bet this problem isn’t students

Well, in encouraging news, BRPD officers looked very proficient at the other end of S. Stadium (intersection of S. Stadium and Nicholson) dancing in the middle of the street to of Cash Money hits.

It likely isn't.

But what you are seeing now has been in motion for LONG time. It used to be (for the most part), the only people on campus on game day were people attending the game. But over the past couple of decades the on-campus crowd has become increasing full of loiters. People with zero intention of going to the game. They are just on campus to drink. Not all unlike Mardi Gras.

It would be rash, but BR needs to increase the presence of law enforcement big time. If they have to really crack down a bit for a while, so be it. If BR loses the demand for fans to attend LSU games, then they lose their ONLY profitable tourist draw.

I made an assumption about who was involved in the shootings. Students are not part of that assumption.

We tailgate right across S Stadium in front of the Ag Center. There was a scattering of people and several yelling gunshots. After clearing our tailgate and ducking behind vehicles for safety, we began to smell fireworks within a few minutes.

Can’t say that we heard either ourselves, just our own observations. In either case, neither is acceptable in a crowd of that size.

What time was this? We tailgate nearby and missed all of it.

I can’t recall. Timestamp wasn’t on my mind. Best guess is around 3-4? We weren’t close to picking up anything.

So another upstanding, law-abiding citizen adhering to the gun-free zone that is LSU. Much like locks, laws are only there for the honest people.

First thing I noticed while coming in for a game, a whole area off of Highland right before S Stadium filled to the brim with nothing but ratchet. Looked like the back to school bash at the PMAC. At this point, I'm not going to allow my daughters to go to LSU in a few years. I guess LSU doesn't want very well qualified private school graduates with enough extra curriculars to fill a whole week bringing up the prestige of their in-state school. I'll just send them out of state like I wanted.
