Let me help you out here. The Mirage was once the largest hotel in the world. It was recently purchased by Hard Rock and is currently undergoing a complete reimagining which includes a new guitar shaped tower. The photo you have posted is a rendering of the completed project (ETA 2027).

This is accurate
The Mirage was such a cool place when it opened. I watched the birth of Squirt the dolphin there

had an annual conference i attended for a decade that was at the mirage so that's where i stayed.
i gotta agree; it was getting a little dated and time for a remake esp. given vegas' penchant for redoing buildings every couple decades

Same with the Flamingo. Needed a facelift in the worst way.

The 90's were peak Vegas. Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, NYNY, Excalibur, MGM Grand, etc were all brand new. Most profits came from gaming, so parking was free and food was reasonably priced. It's totally changed and not for the better.

90s were pretty good but I'd say that they had a pretty good run from the 50s through the 80s

It was a thing in Vegas at the time with everyone looking forward to the new dolphin. My dad was high up at Caesars and got us in and we were lucky enough to see the birth. He shot out and the nanny dolphin gave him a nudge to get swimming.

talent was primo, you could stay in the best places and eat great food for cheap, the mob kept that place safe and clean, they wanted you in the casino and handing over your money

I used to know the manger of the old Las Vegas Hilton, formerly the International Hotel, she would set me up with some pretty sweet deals, got to stay in Elvis' suite a few times, for something like $35/night
