Quick fix to the running game

Very simple… TEMPO
Where is the up tempo offense that teams went to in the past bc offenses weren’t scoring enough points? Hell we snap the ball now with under 10 sec on the play clock 90% of the time.
Tennessee averaged 216 on the ground last year and not a single OL drafted, Clyde Edwards Helaire was a first round pick and was nowhere near an NFL back, Florida State has gone from one of the worst offenses last year, to now leading the nation in rushing. What do all these have in common?? All up tempo offenses

I think tempo would help Nuss in the passing game as well, he seems to struggle when he has too much time to think

Tempo can help at times, and I think it's something we should try.
When you don't have a great run game already, then the spread offense out of the shotgun every play only makes it worse. I get that's the bulk of college football but putting the QB under center either never or only on 3rd/4th & 1 fools nobody. There is still a place for formations like the "I", "Pro" and others with a lead blocking legit fullback and not just a bigger TE that doesn't catch as well as the others.

Tempo sounds great in theory but in reality instead of going 3 and out in 2-3 minutes, you go 3 and out in 45 seconds.

quote:You don’t have to commit to it for an entire game. It can often create a spark or get the offense in rhythm. Outside of the injury/non injury situation it’s one of the easiest things that could be tried to try to get the offense going, yet they refuse to even attempt it.

The easiest fix would be to actually commit to the run. You can’t just call running plays on 2nd and 10 and expect success on the ground.

I’ve been screaming for more tempo for the last year with Sloan as OC. They try to get into the perfect play every time they line up based on the defensive formation only to get stuffed for a no yard gain on a rush up the middle. It’s infuriating

This! If every one of us knows he is going to run it on 2nd and 10, don’t you think the guy across the field getting paid millions also knows.
Also, stop with the read option look when there is no read or option.

Why did we think Joe Sloan was a quality OC… 3-9 in his last season at La Tech

For the running game, put the back behind Nuss. This gives him time to build speed and have better vision of the running lane to hit. If you watched the virginia vs fla state game friday night, Virginia was able to run the ball having their back behind the qb sort of like the I formation. It worked. I do think this would really help the running game.

a good powerful running back , a qb that WILL run , O LINE that moves people and a multi level passing attack...! ! !
