The skateboard that Tony Hawk used to make history in 1999 has sold for a record-breaking $1.15 million, according to a statement from Julien’s Auctions on Wednesday.
The deck, called the Birdhouse “Falcon 2,” was used by Hawk to land the first-ever 900 trick — a 2-and-a-half-turn trick few skateboarders dare to try — at the 1999 San Francisco X Games.
After numerous failed attempts, Hawk successfully flipped twice through the air and landed the move. The packed crowd roared and announcers screamed on the live broadcast.
That's 2.5 turns

Hawk said in an interview with The Associated Press earlier this week that he hoped the anonymous buyer was “someone who truly appreciates it, or that event or that object meant something to them and that it’s not just a flex because they have the money.”

The auctioneer said that the $1.15 million sale was the largest price tag on skateboard memorabilia in history.
The collection up for sale also included other exorbitantly priced Hawk paraphernalia, ranging from an autographed Frosted Flakes cereal box that went for $512 to the scraped knee pads he wore to make history in 1999, which topped $57,000.
A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit The Skatepark Project, Hawk’s nonprofit foundation that helps build skateparks.

I'd recommend to anyone that has Max to watch a documentary they put out a few years ago about Tony Hawk. It's called Until the Wheels Fall Off. Really well done.
It's easy to forget just how big Hawk and skateboarding/x-treme sports were in the late 90s-early 2000s.

I always found birdhouse decks to be too heavy

I had the Tech Deck of that one when I was a kid

Yes that documentary was very well done. I grew up in the early 2000s playing the video game, while my dad grew up in the 80s skating and watching tony hawk. So we both had our own affinity towards him and appreciattion for the different stages of his life/parts of documentary

Dumb question...
I was in my mid 20s and had been out of the skateboarding scene for some time when he landed the 900 at the X Games, but I remember watching it.
Was this the first 900 landed in competition? I could have sworn he did a 900 "McHawk" in the old Bones Brigade videos of the late 80s.

He was my favorite professional skater back in the late 80’s early 90’s.
He has managed to stay relevant and popular as a skateboarder all these years.
He’s especially popular now cause of his grandson.

Same. + CKY, Jackass, etc.
There is a separate documentary about the game out there somewhere by the way.

At 35, part of me wants to try and skate but when I get my fatass on the board now it just doesn’t feel the same anymore. Falling down hurts more now.

That was the 720, 2 turns. Hawk was the first to land that one too if I remember
quote:
A "Tony Hawk 720" refers to the skateboarding trick that Tony Hawk pioneered in 1985, which involves completing two full rotations (720 degrees) in mid-air

At 45, I got back on. One of the neighborhood kids built a quarter pipe. I went up, did an axle stall, then back down.
That was enough for me. The kids were mind blown.

I remember watching him hit that 900 when it aired live. It was a big moment. That and Travis Pastrana hitting the first double backflip were top X Games moments.

I'd prefer the board McGill first did the McTwist on in Sweden.

That board brings back memories from my ever so brief skater phase. Tony was a superstar.

One time I was out in north county San Diego (where Tony Hawk lives and grew up). I saw some teenagers frantically looking around like they lost something. I wandered over and asked them if they lost something and needed help and they said "nah we're just lookin for the new Tony Hawk board". I thought that was strange but one of them explained that every month or so or every time he launches a new board or something, Tony goes out and hides a skateboard somewhere and then leaves scavanger hunt clues on the internet so kids can go out and try to find where he hid it.
I guess the million dollar board didn't get hidden behind a dumpster for potheads to search for.
