An Oh Henry 45-70!

Check out the brass butt plate with no recoil pad. This sucker is going to hurt.

Question: When I received it, my FFL said if I had a pistol permit I did not have to have wait for the background check. My question is since when? Ive bought many with and without a pistol permit and this was never presented as an option.

I recently renewed my CCP for the reason of not having to wait for the background checks for transfers. I think it's been a few months since that change

Great looking rifle

I had a Marlin 1895 (I think that’s what it was called) with the long octagonal barrel. I had to put a mold-to-fit limb saver in it. It thumped hard to the point where I saw stars. That was shooting those Hornady Leverevolution 325 grain bullets. It was an awesome gun but needed the limbsaver in my case. Congrats, she’s a beaut!

Local place has a used Prodigy with a Holosun for $1250. Not the best deal, but I think I might go get it.

I can only imagine the pain in bear loads or +P. I have already bought a slip on recoil pad, and I am researching limbsaver at the moment. If you know the model number that fits my weapon that would be great.

It’s been like that for a long time, I’m not sure when it was added to the ATF list for exceptions. Honestly, it only marginally speeds up the transfer process for me, but it is faster.

It's been a long while, my buddy is a cop and we went to buy guns one day. He had to wait for the background check and mine was no wait, he isn't happy about it at all. They all qualify annually and so many ccp holders just get it and never shoot.

I'm not sure about that. I bought a revolver just a few months ago and I was not presented with the option.

They don’t have to present it as an option. They’re transferring a firearm, not educating people on the law. My FFL who is also a CHP instructor just happened to mention it one day, so I started doing it after that.

ETA: According to google ai:
quote:

Louisiana concealed handgun permit holders are exempt from background checks when purchasing firearms if their permit was issued on or after March 9, 2015

It's been a few months for Alabama. My FFL still does a background check regardless, but I think that's mostly so he can show me all the new stuff he has or what project he's working on.

I dont know why they want to wait ten minutes applying for background check when I could just as easily be in and out then. Is not that counterproductive?

I mean, in Texas it's never really been a long wait for me in any case. Check usually takes about as long as the process to check out. But with my CCL, it's supposed to be "faster". I've never really noticed a difference.

Just filling out the application takes time.

Yeah, I still have to fill out the federal from and everything with my license. Everything is electronic at most shops around me, it's super fast to fill out when you know the sheet and don't need to read anything.

In South Carolina another benefit of having a CWP vs not having it is you can carry near a school whereas if you don’t you can’t be within so many feet of one. And in South Carolina you’re ALWAYS near a school of some kind somewhere. I also went to buy a gun several years ago and the background check was down so I couldn’t leave with it, if I had my license I could have. So I keep renewing it for those purposes.

My browning 1885 isn’t bad at all to shoot, but it has a proper recoil pad on it.
