Vampire Weekend at the Saenger
John Cleese at Mahalia Jackson
I’m going to the latter but if they wouldn’t have been at the same time I’d have instead seen Vampire Weekend.
Any other MBoarders attending either?

Walter Trout was supposed to play too, maybe tomorrow night. But it got moved to next year.
Actually, looks like it was for tonight at the New Orleans Jazz and Blues Market.

Pumped for Vampire Weekend. Really enjoyed their latest album and haven’t seen them in an indoor venue since HOB 2008ish.

Hope they were good.
Cleese was as good as a 86.75 year-old could be in the format he was presented.
Here was the schedule-
7:30 - 8:00 he sat in chair center stage and alone discussed “Holy Grail” and discussed related anecdotes. He then exited the stage.
8:00 - 9:30 “Monty Python & the Holy Grail” (1975) shown
9:30 - 9:45 Intermission
9:45 - 10:00 More discussion from Cleese solo
10:00 - 10:45 Cleese takes about 12 Q & As from the audience, very entertaining, crowd dismissed
11:00 pm - 11:30 backstage signing event for about 30 persons, he was seated at one end of the room and would spend about a minute kibitzing with each single or couple, ending with each couple getting a professional photo with him (suitable for framing).
I would do it again, it was a good evening.
The “private” session was an additional $40 per person and sold out immediately when tickets went on sale in early June.
Mahalia Jackson is very nice once inside, the exterior grounds look like GTA Liberty City

I enjoyed the Vampire Weekend concert.
They came back after the finale to take song requests from the audience. Only other bands songs.

I was surprised at their large supporting ensemble and overall production value. Really polished tight set that was fun and kept the audience engaged throughout. The non -VW song suggestions at the end was great too. Only negative is I didn’t expect them to end at midnight. Babysitter made bank.

That was my 6th vampire weekend show this tour, the band is so tight. They played my request, Atlantic City, and was the best cover of the night imo. Cool setlist as well.
