We have an enclosed back yard where our dog can stay while we are at work, but when it rains she panics and digs a hole under the fence and escapes (also chews up the bottom of my fence boards).

I've tried multiple different things, but none have worked. Want to install an electric fence with a collar on the dog, non gps as I have heard that sometimes they get off alignment. I don't want to have to dig up my backyard and want to just connect the wire to my fence directly.

The issue I am running into is the way my backyard is designed and how the fences I have seen operate. From my understanding you have to connect each end of the wire to a hub that plugs into an outlet. I won't be able to do this since I just want to go from one corner of my back yard to the other. Picture my lot as a square and I need to run the fence from midway point on one side around to the midway point on the other side.

Are there any options out there for this type of system?

I have to say, shocking your dog when its panicking because of storm anxiety doesn't seem that great.

Not sure how many other options there are but I'd be looking hard at them.

Not if you want an electric fence. You have to plug into a power source, and electricity can't do electricity things if it doesn't have a complete circuit.

Short of having an electrician install an outside box at your fence (and even then you have to complete the circuit, and if the wires coming and going are too close they can cancel out the signal), your only option is to dig from your fence to your house and come in with the wiring or have an outlet installed outside and have a weatherproof box to house the fence's panel. I've put two in, my last one is 2 acres in size. You can (and should) attach the wire on the fence to manufacturer height specs. No need to dig except from the fence to the power, in which you'll have to take a drill and double twist the wires so their signal cancels out and the dog can traverse across it.

To my knowledge, short of installing a solar powered cattle fence, your only option is as listed above, GPS or the units that have a circumference setting on them.

I've done this, it has to make a circuit.

I started on the bottom rail of the fence on one side of my house where I had power. I went all the way around the fence on the bottom until I got to the other side of the house. Then I went to the top rail and ran it all the way back a long the fence to where I started.

Can do this. If can't run to house, they make solar powered fences. Just need to hook up a 12v battery to it. I know people who have them on their gardens and they work great.

Baw you’re going to go from bad to worse with an electrical fence.
She’s going to tear up some shite and end up hurting herself once that charge hits. I know a guy that had to sell a nice dog because he went berzerk with thunder. Might try a kennel when you know it’s going to rain, might be able to condition her. Dog I’m talking about would eat his self out of metal or plastic.
Good Luck
