Just going through the motions until the off-season.

I feel no pain anymore.

Good news is we’re ending on a west coast swing so I will not be watching/torturing myself as much.

As you were.

Are the Astros going to miss the playoffs? I turned down tickets on Sunday because I didn't want to ruin my night.

If these games were in Houston, I would agree

But in Sacramento with nothing better to do, I guess we'll see

I think Espada deserves another year but has to fire his staff. Also all team medical and training staff needs to go

Well we only get to do this 6 more times. And come the sports doldrums of late winter, I'll be missing these stupid bastards and jonesing for that spring training fix.

So I'm here. I'm not happy about it but I'm here.

I give you floor to explain why.

I grant him some leeway of grace with the injuries. We certainly would have been better if the majority of our pitching staff wasn't shredded. If we weren't without Yordan, Isaac, JP and Jake for months long stretches. So yes, I grant Joe some grace with that. The roster remained competitive into the 2nd half.

But I think the 2nd half collapse has exceeded the grace I'm willing to grant him. They've played totally lifeless baseball. Couldn't pick up wins against last place teams when we needed to (losing 2 out of 3 to Baltimore and Angels). The pitching, especially Framber and the bullpen have regressed no doubt but its largely the offense that's the source of our troubles. Their early aggression is used against them, they dont work counts, they hit into too many double plays and with that they dont get the ball in the air for sac flies. We knew all this last year. It was a problem. And Joe chose to stick with Cintron and Snit. He owns that. And some of its not entirely on those guys. Altuve, Yainer, Dubon are just extremely aggressive free singers. Always have been. But you've gotta work to find some balance. And even when we got some help back. Peña, Yordan, adding Correa and Sanchez. It made no difference. We were still a mess. Thats not injuries.

Beyond the offensive problems, The team just plays with no life, no fire. They're zombies out there as theyre free falling. I put that on Joe. Its reflective of his mind mannered approach. These last few weeks, they've needed a leader to hold their feet to the fire, rally them into an us against the world, backs against the wall mentality and I just dont see them playing that way.

You're right on all your points, the only reason I wanna give him another year with a different staff is that he's had some success before. It's still a small sample size but I don't want The Astros to be one of those teams that becomes a revolving door of managers.

In order:

Med/training/strength and conditioning staff(s) have to be overhauled, both major and minors. Guys are coming off injuries or stints in the minors only to get hurt again.

The hitting coaches have to go.

Perezchica needs to be moved off 3B box or released. He also does some of the defensive positioning, I think, so if they must, keep him for that. But he’s a terrible 3B coach. Guys ran stop signs and ignored routinely this year.

Find a taker for Cocksuck, cut your losses and move Paredes to 1B.

Espada doesn’t impress me but I don’t have the urge to fire him like FODB … yet. But check back next week.

This is my biggest problem... aside from obviously the entire hitting/baserunning side of the coaching staff.

If teams are a reflection of their manager, then this is a pretty serious problem. They all caught a bad case of Tuckeritis and not even Correa coming back could cure it.

The roster is irrevocably fricked.

What sucks is our payroll is guaranteed to be pretty high the next couple years with the contracts we've given out. So ownership will want to make the team competitive and try to win. But the team is far too flawed to have a real chance to do anything other than lose in a wildcard series at best. So we'll slowly sink to the bottom and have nothing of value to sell by the time we get there instead of trading Pena, Yordan, Brown, Abreu, etc while they still have value
