Booked a Disney Trip this morning for New Years, as a military retiree Disney used to give some pretty good discounts for military….hotel was no discount tickets 20% off. I’m not complaining just curious why the sudden change

That is the busiest week of the year at Disney. Probably blocked out for all hotel discounts.

I've been Newfield as a guest of active duty and stayed at Shades of Green. I was shocked how cheap the tickets and stay was.
Not sure if that's still an option.

Shades of Green is still an option and pretty cheap. Shuttle to parks is convenient enough.
It also is treated as a Disney property so you get all the advanced booking benefits for rides, dining, Bippity Bop, etc.

Probably cause people were abusing it similar to disability issues they cut back on

You need to look into Shades of Green as already said. Very good discount pricing plus all the Disney property perks. It's also like one big family when you are there. There's a room where you can leave extra stuff at the end of your trip for other families if they need it, like diapers, toiletries, snacks, etc.. Mangino's is a very good restaurant as well.
