Anyone know the venue?

Cajun Dome?
Pretty sure my Dad was working that show with Loretta. I believe it was Jones, Conway and Loretta.

The Cajundome didn't open until 1985.
I think this show was at Alex Broussard's Ranch

May be a dumb question, but was your dad a performer?

I actually just watched this whole concert on YouTube last week. Great performance by The Possum

1983? Can you imagine the amount of cocaine running through his veins at this concert? David Allen Coe's son does a podcast that talks about the history of George and Tammy and that is a wild wild story. Cocaine and Rhinestones podcast.

Yes. He spent almost three decades in Nashville as both a studio and touring drummer. During that time he worked for Donna Fargo, Conway, Dolly and spent 14 years as a touring drummer for Loretta.
I’m almost certain I was at that show because they were playing close to home.

That is very cool!
In regards to that, did he also drum for Merle at one time?

Only fill in dates on tours around that time that featured Conway, Loretta, Hag...or Jones, Loretta, Hag. And only when Hags drummer may have been ill or out for a personal reason. It didn't happen often. It happened more with Conway because he was close friends with Conways drummer.
I saw him do one of those fill in shows with Hag at Barton in Little Rock one night.
That was the first time I ever met Merle and it blew me away. I'd driven up for the show from north Louisiana. I was around 17 years old at the time and when I walked in the back of the coliseum, I saw my Dad standing there talking with a couple of men. One had his back to me, was a little shorter than the other men and I just assumed it was one of the Coalminers. I walked up and hugged my Father only to hear him say....hey, I want you to meet Merle Haggard.
Almost passed out.

yuuup, filmed at AB's Ranch in Judice/Duson, LA. - middle of nowhere back then. Alex was not only a musician, he also was a crawfish farmer, pilot, booking manager, and was very tight with George Jones. Other notable acts who played there: Willie Nelson for several of his birthday bash's, Merle, Lightning Hopkins, Buddy Emmons, Freddie Fender, John Anderson, Sammy Kershaw, and many Cajun musicians. In the early 80's, the Ranch hosted several boxing matches with Keon Papillon and promotor Kerry Daigle.
The Ranch is currently owned and operated by the Affiliated Blind of Louisiana where they host Bingo and a training facility for individuals with blind/visual impairments. Only if those walls could talk.

I left Lafayette in 1985 to head off to law school. I never went back.
Very cool update. Much appreciated.

you should come back for Festival International which is in the spring and temps are somewhat cooler. You would not recognize many places since numerous restaurants have closed, and the city has expanded everywhere. The village of Youngsville probably had 400 residents when you left. Now it's insane with over 20,000 and still building subdivisions in former cane fields.
circa 1982 .. New Flanders rd. (Amb. Caffery) Petroleum Tower on L , Mall sign on Rt . whole area was under construction. Many kids grew up hunting rabbits, squirrel, and deer in this area
circa 2025 ...

Oh ok. I asked if he had drummed for Merle because I knew one of the nieces of Merle's old drummer-Biff Adam. I should say I spoke with her in a restaurant several times because she was our regular waitress. Lol
Very cool chatting with you. I bet you've met a lot of impressive artists. What a time for country music that was.

What years did he drum for Loretta? I may have seen him.

I typed a poor sentence. I've traveled back to Lafayette many times over the years to visit family but I never returned to live there. That said, I probably haven't been back to Lafayette in eight years or so. I do go to Baton Rouge every two to three years for LSU football games.
You're so correct about the growth in the Acadiana area. Each time I returned to visit it was hard to recognize (even process) all the growth.
That 1982 pic is amazing. I recognize everything in it, but man does it make me feel old!
Appreciate the pics. Best...

She would always introduce him as being from Monroe but we were from very rural northeast Louisiana.
