ESPN future power rankings

Pelicans drop from 16 to 29 in Dumars' short tenure.

If we are going by his history than very possibly yes. Remember what he has already traded. You stink this season you get no lottery pick. On that note lets loook at the talent he passed on when GM of Pistons Drafting Milicic over Bosh, Wade and Melo.

Fan and league smart-guy reaction to Dumars largely based on him not being a 35-year-old analytics nerd. So he must be an idiot.

He's been aggressive. He's not sitting back and playing the percentages. If he and Weaver are right on Queen, then in two-years the narrative will reverse. If not, everyone can say I told you so.

Queen and who Atlanta takes with our pick next year will be tied for a long time. It’s about which one of those two are better not just if Queen is good.

"The Hawks could not believe their good fortune," Dua wrote. "While the Pelicans would spend the next 24 hours facing enormous backlash for their reckless decision making, Hawks executives weren’t shy about sharing the details behind deal’s lopsided structure with rival teams." "One Eastern executive with knowledge of how the conversation went from Atlanta’s perspective described a perplexing scene. When Senior Vice President Troy Weaver made the call to Atlanta’s Bryson Graham, Graham couldn’t believe what was actually being offered. Graham asked for clarification multiple times to confirm the unprotected pick was indeed part of the deal."

I kept thinking surely the reporting on the trade was wrong, if thought there was definitely some protection on it and they had bad info. Was shocked when I realized that was the actual trade.

The Murray gamble is still worse. You lose a young up and coming player who was still on rookie contract for a guy who ended up as damaged goods with 3 years and over 93 mil left on his deal while sacrificing depth and filling half the roster with fringe NBA players.

Yea, the slope started last season when Griffin went all in and it backfired hard while choosing to hold on to Ingram knowing he wasn't re-signing and wanted out.

Sounds like the Hawks would’ve made the deal even if the pick was protected. Just utter incompetence to push your best offer right away. Buy Dumars a copy of Trump’s best seller The Art of the Deal.

Same here. I thought for sure there was no way it could be unprotected completely. I kept waiting for the correction of the previous report.

This board will be the place to be when the ping pong balls are arranged in next years lottery.

Many of the Gayle/Dumars apologists will be begging for the Pels logo not to get sucked into the vault.

I think we need to see if his plan works first before we can declare this.

Only name that came to mind quickly was Joe Dumars (at his previous job)

I know people like to flame Dumars for the Milicic pick but Milicic wasn’t bad at all. He was actually a skilled big, it was the mental part that got him. It also seem like he didn’t want to play in the US. Also Detroit wouldn’t play young guys (just like Willie) which affected Milicic development. I think that’s why Dumar is so big on character now so he won’t make the same mistake. I don’t see Fears or Queen having weak mentality like Milicic.
