I've ran a Honda motor and Simpson pressure washer into the ground. It's taken me 15 years to do it, but I've done it. Pretty happy with the quality, but just curious if anyone has found a better combination or anything to consider that has come up in the last 15 years.

Not sure what your budget is, but a 4gpm 4000psi Pressure Pro with a Honda 390 and Cat pump can be had for around $2000. I have one and it's a beast. I can't imagine needing more for residential maintenance. If you’re not looking to spend that much, I’d just go back with the Simpson.

This boards consensus has been Honda motor. I also have the Simpson with Honda motor and it’s done everything I’ve ever needed.. just go back with the same as what you got

I have a 3000psi ryobi with a honda engine that I got off facebook for $75. They said it ran, but had no pressure, which immediately triggered in my mind that the pump was jacked, but the engine was good. Spent another $75 on the pump and good to go. Has worked great for 10 years now.

Brand of the frame doesn’t matter long as you have a Honda GX motor and Cat pump.
Side note… A lot of pump failures are caused from letting the unit idle too long. Mfg’s recommend no longer than 1min. Pump will over heat without flow.

No, brand of frame and materials matters, my Mi-t-M has a much heavier duty frame and motor mounting plate than a comparable Simpson. Even better are the aluminum framed units. Cat, AR, AAA, or Comet are all great pumps too, they all have pumps that are light-duty to industrial-duty rated too so just going with a nameplate yet not looking at the actual model number is a problem.

I broke down a couple years ago and got the largest capacity ryobi electric model, gotta say for only using it a couple times a year it’s great and does the stuff around the house just as well. Then just put it up and it’s good to go next year without worrying about fluids or gas

What went bad? Pump? Replace it. Motor? Replace it. Keep rolling.

I've been a fan of Honda two stroke motors since shop class in 7th grade (almost 40 years ago.) Buuut, electric does perform very well if it fits your use case. You've got to be hooked up to water, so you can be hooked up to power, and you have fewer moving parts (if any.)

You can get decent electric pressure washers but their prices usually put them close to a mid-range gas models. The main thing is the pump and how well it's flushed between uses. I always flush my AR pump with RV antifreeze, keeping water from stagnating in the pump (and especially from freezing) is the #1 maintenance item on pressure washers. I have an inline mesh filter screen too, just to make sure I don't send a chunk of debris into the pump.

I've replaced the pump twice and maintained the engine on it. It still runs but is just a PITA to get running at times. In all honesty, it'll probably run for awhile longer but it's just become a bit of a pain and I just want a new one to not have to deal with maintenance or repairs for awhile. So, running it into the ground might have been a little bit of an overstatement.
Electric isn't really an option that fits my use case. I take it to job sites at times when it's needed and already have to tote around 400' of water hose at times.

What engine is it? GC, GS, or GX series?

Some carb work and a new pump and I bet you’ll be golden for another decade or 2. But I fully understand that sometimes it’s worth one’s time to just replace.

I have a Simpson with a 13HP Honda that belonged to my father (been gone 30 years). It's big, bulky, and heavy but that dude will cut a 2x6 in half.
Hard to beat anything connected to a Honda.

Which Simpson is the best bang for the buck? I need one sooner than later.
